When I was younger, Chiller Theatre, hosted by Bill Cardille, was huge around here. It was a late-Sat.-nite double feature of horror movies (11:30 PM), peppered with Cardille's twisted humorous skits.

It was a big deal for local celebrities who visited Pittsburgh to come onto Chiller & participate in one of "Chilly Billy's" skits. The most memorable were skits that featured Phyllis Diller & Barbara "Agent 99" Feldon.

Chiller was on WIIC-TV, the local NBC affiliate, & it was SO popular that WIIC didn't carry Saturday Night Live for the 1st few years of its existence. If you wanted to watch SNL in the 'Burgh, you had to go to an independent station. Eventually Chiller went off the air, not coz it declined in popularity, but coz some hard-thinking executive decided it was cheaper just to carry SNL.

Wanted to come to this thread yesterday & wish ya'll a Happy Halloween, but you know how that went...

Took my son & friends trick-or-treating. I noted that the houses with Kerry-Edwards signs were decorated & gave out candy. The houses with Bush-Cheney signs weren't decorated & remained dark & gave out nothing.

I thought this odd, then I realized that the Republicans probably think that trick-or-treating is a welfare program.

Very cool site. It's a shame in this cable age kids don't have the local guys we used to know and love. In philadelphia we all grew up with Dr. Shock and then his daughter, Bubbles who would awaken him from his coffin.

It looks like some cities still have'em. They're lucky.

I also miss the old local kiddie shows. Gene London is now a fashion designer. And if you watched Captain Kangaroo instead of Captain Noah I just have nothing to say to you. Even my grandmom had her Mrs. Noah sweet potato plant

3 weeks ago, a small independent UHF station that's also available on cable introduced It's Alive!, hosted by Prof. Emcee Square, Stiffy the Dead Clown, Pointy, & Fritz.
