It is one of the perks of being atheist! It is simple, that stuff is written by humans with a human agenda and used by humans for a human agenda. I am not judging any particular agenda as good or bad because we all have an agenda or two! there is certainly a lot of humanness written all over it. to see it that way, may make it a more....beneficial looking at history (?) (for lack of a better way of putting it?)

which now reminds me of when i have said stuff like, "well that doesn't make any sense at all! what kind of sense does that make?" and they were like, "well why do you dwell on that part? don't dwell on that part." and something like "dwell on the good part" or "the part that you do understand" (or something along those lines) and i am like, "and where is this going again?" i don't know...

yes, it can be pretty deep

I mean it is like simple things. Like these little sayings here have some all mighty significance if attached to the word of god but if you look at it as just a couple of commonly used words of wisdom to end a letter from a man named Paul, well, it is really quite different.

but i think paul himself may have attached the almighty to the letter that is thessalonians...didn't he?
i am not saying he didn't believe it though

Paul always believed he was speaking with the authority of "THE LORD" and I am sure his will (Paul's will) was directed at getting all those recently converted christians to stay christian. So he adds those little sayings and he has already lobbied these people how to interpret prophesy and how to test questions of philosophy (or religion) etc etc and wow.

he may have believed he was doing the work of the lord (i tend to believe he believed so)...as i believe others have and do....their will being connected to and directed by what they believe god's will to be. others, maybe not so much.
but some of those 'mysteries' (as mentioned in this thread) can lead to a confusion of spirit, me thinks.
