oh...when you said something about blasphemy, i wasn't thinking about wondering about stuff i'd read as being something bad (for lack of a better word?), or anything.

but then i was trying to remember something else i'd read though (as far as wondering about stuff)....i think this is it?

what does this mean?

1 Thessalonians 5:21

"but test everything that is said. Hold onto what is good."

interesting i thought, whether you are religious or not...again it sounds like humans trying to figure stuff out?

Not sure what the "but test everything that is said means". Hold onto what is good. I'm assuming that means to keep doing what is good and hold on to it. :)

what stuff needs figurin'?

I believe this comes from the very first, the original, christian written record. I guess at that time ( only 20 years removed from the cross) those christians where into saying question authority. This book is about people dying before the savior comes and it has some of those great Paulism's like the day of the lord will come like a thief in the night and as with labor pains there is nothing any of us can do to stop it. That Paul, I tell you when he was rolling he was pretty good. This is the book that sets up the whole second coming with Darby's strange dreams of rapture.

If we test these ideas are they a good thing?

yes there is a lot to look into. the scripture before that one says:
(1Thessalonians 5:20)

"Do not scoff at prophesies,"

then 1 Thessalonians 5:21:

"but test everything that is said. Hold on to what is good."

which now reminds me of when i have said stuff like, "well that doesn't make any sense at all! what kind of sense does that make?" and they were like, "well why do you dwell on that part? don't dwell on that part." and something like "dwell on the good part" or "the part that you do understand" (or something along those lines) and i am like, "and where is this going again?" i don't know...

i mean, if some of it inspires you in a positive way, well yay

yes, it can be pretty deep

re: first clip

OMG that was sly??? another great little obscure one...i don't know where you find them!

re: both clips
(i know sometimes i go on and on....oh well)
musical interlude, most enjoyable,,,most definitely

okay, like when i wonder about stuff like when lot offered his daughters to the rapers....i was like (????) and later when jesus in a warning tone is saying, "remember lot's wife" (who had been turned into a pillar of salt), and all i could find out about lot's wife was that she "looked back" which you know, you have to try and figure out (speculate as to why she looked back?), and i wondered where the outrage was over lot offering his daughters to the rapers?

but then, there is the thing about loving one another, which that part sounds pretty good. (if you can pick and choose i suppose?)

so, if you look at it like a record of humans bumbling around trying to figure stuff out (in some way or other)...that is one thing. but then if you say that it is the word of GOD, you know...in that context...i am having trouble finding the words, but it messes with my head.

i don't know...maybe calling it deep was a misstep?

It is one of the perks of being atheist! It is simple, that stuff is written by humans with a human agenda and used by humans for a human agenda. I am not judging any particular agenda as good or bad because we all have an agenda or two! They might be good and they might be bad but there is no place for a supernatural all mighty being in them!
