Are ya'll okay in the earthquake? Do check in & let us know you are okay.

We just had a bad earthquake in VA. I am okay and so are my folks. I had just come back from knitting group and picking up chinese for my dad and I to eat. I was in the kitchen getting the food ready to serve and suddenly I felt like what was an earthquake. My dad was in the bathroom and felt the toilet stool move. I heard a neighbors dog bark really bad. Even the dog knew what was up We went thru the one 8 yrs ago here in VA that hit around the time of Hurricane Isabel. I remember back then laying on the bed with a sinus headache and feeling the bed shake and hearing loud crashing noises and asking Mike if he was okay. I figured it had to be an earthquake cuz it was acting like the one I had been thru before. Earthquakes aren't just in California anymore. Hope everyone is safe.

All good here in southern MD. The walls here swayed... It was slightly disconcerting... Looks like I was about 70 miles away from the center.

We're fine here in No. VA. I think I have some crooked pictures on the walls. At the time of the earthquake, I was in the drive-thru line at a fast food place, getting some iced tea before I headed over to a friend's home to play music and sing. It felt like someone was violently shaking my car...I actually looked to see if some kids were involved. Then I noticed the trees shaking, and then I finally realized it was an earthquake. The only thing I was the least bit concerned about was the water heater in our basement, and since it didn't get shaken to the point where it fell over, all is good.
We lived in the Los Angeles area (Torrance) for eight years, so unless I see shopping centers collapsing or the earth cracking and opening up gaping holes in freeways I don't worry too much about quakes if I can get into a clear area...I've been through a lot of them. The worst one I experienced was in October 1987; it was a 7.00 and the town of Whittier, CA pretty much fell down.

So glad you guys are safe. I felt 2 aftershocks. The earthquake was pretty scary.

Thanks for reporting in, guys! I've been wondering. It seems that of all my family members on the east coast, I'm the only one who didn't feel the earthquake, although there are other people here in Mystic who felt it. Crazy!

I'm also glad to hear everyone's OK....... Now, while I'm glad Hurricane Irene appears to be staying east of us, all of you in the mid and upper east coast may soon be under the gun. Stay safe everyone!!!!

i was also out, running errands and had to stop and grab a bite, so went into the grocery store and threw together something from the cuisine bar and sat down to eat, when i started noticing a rumbling and saw the windows and stuff rattling and was remembering from like a year ago when an earthquake (confirmed on the news) rattled the walls early in the morning here sounding like a huge dump truck driving around right outside the window. but anyway, so i am there looking out the window and at lights shaking and what i am wanting to see is a great big truck driving past which i never did, while the rumbling got louder under my feet and at right about the same time everyone gets this look like,.."earthquake?" and it is time to say, "no doubt", so i grab my food (yes i did) and headed outside and folks out there are a bit rattled as well, like, "wha...?" and i am standing there saying something about i think i have a touch of indigestion, which for some reason made some people laugh for a sec,,, but yeah, another lady was checking tweets as we were realizing it and saying they felt it from like north carolina to toronto, and some cell services were not available....
yes, it can be a tad disconcerting when the earth starts moving...glad to hear no one was hurt.

I was in the bathroom of a train, somewhere between NY and DC. Didn't realize at the time that it was an earthquake -- I just damned Amtrak as it was happening. Found out when we reached Baltimore and they first held us and hour and then let us go to DC at about 10 miles an hour.

i remember hearing about the trains needing to go really slow...

I don't know either Might just be a case of, as my grandfather was fond of saying, "Being on the right train but the wrong track, or being on the right track but the wrong train".........I still for the life of me don't understand the process he used to differentiate between the two concepts, but his meaning was pretty clear!
