awwww... :)
i remember that song...i remember once in school two classmates sat up at the front of the class on like those tall poetry stools and sang it (it seems like they sang over a record (as apposed to a cappella)...was there an instrumental only of that song? anyway) and every single one in the class hung on every verse as our mates up there captivated us.
thanks for posting that!

The same but different. Last year of high school in Physics - first class of the day ya know - and we are supposed to be reviewing for the BIG test. Well, before the teacher gets there - whose last name is the same as mine though no relation - I launch into an a cappella version of - yes, you guessed it - Alice's Restaurant (no 4 part harmony, but definite feeling). The teacher did not say anything and just sat there and listened as did the rest of the class. Finished it up - after probably 15+ minutes - and the teacher spoke: "Well, we're still going to have the test tomorrow." to which the whole class groaned and pleaded to have changed - which he did, by the way.

Never figured out why he didn't stop me and start class. Just shows to go ya that Arlo has that certain something even if it is second mouth (hand) so to speak.

i would have loved to have seen that! and considering that in high school i hadn't even heard alice's restaurant yet, i probably would have figured you to be a %@&%$!* genius!! :)
yeah, i remember a place i worked some time in the 80s i was notorious for occasional silliness (i guess) and once during a lull in activity the number nine song from sesame street popped out of me, "she was a real martian beauty, a number nine cutie..." you know,,,that one...anyway it just popped into my head, cartoon and all and i stood up (cos it seemed like something you would do while standing up?) most likely along with a bit of a faraway look cos i was trying to keep in time with that cartoon going on up there, and all heads turned like they were on swivels, and all watched in silence till i was finished and had fallen out from under the spell i had succumbed to.

they didn't seem to mind too much?

Neat story. I remember in hs Arlo was one of the few folks singers kids liked. I remember hearing Alices on the radio as a kid and thinking it was scary that they were arresting big kids. Yikes.

My english teacher from high school used to play Joan Baez songs for us and then we'd talk or write about their meaning.

The number 9 song (She's got nine arms, that's one of her charms..)- would have been a treat to hear you do it agnes. I also liked the song on the number 11 (especially the part where the cows say "Ah, dry up!) and number 7 (I think that was the one with the alligator king and his son - maybe it was another number)
