I thought it pretty much explained things in generalized terms. But the biggest impression I got from it is that most of the Republican Congressional members are dicks., especially with that dope Representative Joe Wilson (R - SC) yelling out "You lie!" when Obama was trying to dispell some of the misconceptions of health care reform. His web site crashed right after that. Probably from all of the people emailing it to say, "You dick!"

Ya well Obama has already cut a deal with BIG PHAMA. Medicare will not be able to seek a better deal on Meds. That will do nothing for the price of Meds. There are lots of opitions on State levels as Dennis Kucinich has a good plan for. A couple I see for Mass is to allow Masshealth can Common Wealth Health to be a public option. That's what Mitt should have done instead of making it a crime not to have H.C. Sadly D.C. is going to so the same thing Mitt did... Coops do have some potential.

Let’s start off by acknowledging that Rep. Joe Wilson needed to apologize for his outburst in Congress last night during the speech by President Barack Obama. Getting called a liar by the President in a speech may be infuriating, but a certain level of decorum is expected of our elected officials, and Wilson violated that decorum. He did the right thing by apologizing afterward.

Unfortunately, people on the Left want to keep hyperventilating about this as though the world was born on the day Barack Obama won the presidential election. The Democrats were hardly models of decorum in the last administration. Here’s a clip from the State of the Union speech in 2005, when George Bush warned Congress that Social Security was going broke and needed reform immediately. Did Democrats politely listen to the warning? Not exactly. Listen to the boos and catcalls:

Did any of the hyperventilators today demand apologies from their side at the time? Did any Democrat ever offer an apology for their rude behavior? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

I’d take the hyperventilating with a wee more seriousness if it didn’t come from the same crowd who cheered the Iraqi journalist who threw his shoes at Bush in a 2008 press conference.

And just for the record, Bush was more right than they’ll admit:

Quote:
The Social Security Trust Fund reported an August net deficit of $5.865 Billion. This is the largest monthly deficit in nineteen years. Based on recent years data it was not surprising the Fund ran a deficit in August. But the magnitude of the shortfall was a surprise to me. This deficit is now the seventh in the past twelve months. That pace has never been seen before. …

-In August the US Treasury had to borrow an additional $6 billion in the public market to finance the cash shortfall of Social Security. We already have too much paper for sale to fund the budget deficit. SS added to the supply problem last month.

-The 2037 Future Value of the August deficit is -$17b based on a 4% return. What this means is that there will be a very significant revision in the 2037 drop-dead date. Based on current trends the go broke date is closer to 2025.

-This is not just a bad month. The net decline in the Funds assets for June/July/August comes to $7 billion. In 08 that period was in surplus by $5 billion, In 07 it was +$7b and in 06 it was +$13b.

Four years ago, Bush warned that collapse would come in 2042. Now it looks like 2025, thanks to Democrats who preferred to boo and catcall than to act responsibly to reform the Ponzi scheme of Social Security.

Hey, Dave, sorry things seem to be going badly for your side. Please don't paint yourself in a corner defending Joe Wilson, though; it's a losing game. The man is a zero, and this is not the first time he's inserted his foot into his piehole and had to quickly apologize for it. He will be defeated in 2010 for sure now.

...radio and cable talk show hosts [and] prominent politicians [have claimed] that we plan to set up panels of bureaucrats with the power to kill off senior citizens. Now, such a charge would be laughable if it weren't so cynical and irresponsible. It is a lie, plain and simple.

This is called a "straw man" fallacy. It is a tactic in which you try to exaggerate your opponent's argument so much that it begins to sound completely ridiculous, thereby making it effortless to knock down--like a straw man.

As even the Washington Post has acknowledged, the entirely legitimate concern here is with the creepy, needless involvement of a government bureaucracy--one that will, by all accounts, be desperately looking for ways to cut costs--in an area as personal and sensitive as "end-of-life" counseling.

Quote:
There are also those who claim that our reform efforts would insure illegal immigrants. This, too, is false. The reforms -- the reforms I'm proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally.

ObamaCare:

1. Does Not Require Proof of Citizenship to Obtain Health Services: While Section 246 (page 143) of the bill expressly prohibits illegal aliens from receiving government-run healthcare, the bill does not include a specific requirement that a person prove his or her citizenship in order to obtain affordability credits, which means that illegal aliens could obtain coverage.

Section 152 states that "all health care and related services (including insurance coverage and public health activities) covered by this Act shall be provided without regard to personal characteristics extraneous to the provision of high quality health care or related services". This provision has the potential to include illegal immigrants because it may interpret "personal characteristics" to include legal status (Pages 50-51, 143).

2. Requires That If One Family Member Is Covered, All Members Covered: Another provision states that if one member of a family is afforded coverage all members would have coverage, thereby creating another loophole to give taxpayer-subsidized health care to illegal aliens. If a child of illegal aliens is born in the United States, then the entire family becomes eligible for coverage (Page 133).

3. Requires Free Translation Services: Sections 1222 of the bill will provide free translation services and interpreters to those who are not proficient in English. Section 1728 amends SCHIP to provide translation services to children of families and other individuals for whom English is not the primary language (Pages 408-418 and 782).

Quote:
My health care proposal has also been attacked by some who oppose reform as a 'government takeover' of the entire health care system

First, "some who oppose reform?" Please. This is called the "false choice" fallacy. Anyone who opposes a total government takeover must be against doing anything at all. Embarrassingly weak.

And second, Obama is on the record admitting that the single-payer system (government takeover) is in fact the goal here.

Quote:
First, I will not sign a plan that adds one dime to our deficits -- either now or in the future. (Applause.) I will not sign it if it adds one dime to the deficit, now or in the future, period.

Two problems here. First, this is the same Barack "No Earmarks in This Bill" Obama who told us that he doesn't "like big government," swore that he would not compromise national defense by investigating the CIA, and promised that no one making less than $250,000 per year will see any tax increase "of any kind"...only to turn around and investigate the CIA, dramatically increase the size of government, and try to raise taxes on everything from cigarettes to health care benefits, to energy.

But beyond his endless credibility issues, there is the fact that the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office flatly contradicts him, confirming instead that ObamaCare will in fact explode the deficit.

Quote:
...Medicare is another issue that's been subjected to demagoguery and distortion during the course of this debate...The only thing this plan would eliminate is the hundreds of billions of dollars in waste and fraud, as well as unwarranted subsidies in Medicare that go to insurance companies...

H.R. 3200 Includes Over $500 Billion in Cuts to Medicare Starting in 2010, such as:

$32 Billion in cuts to Skilled Nursing Facilities [Pages 223 and 228].

$5.3 Billion in cuts for Impatient Rehabilitation Facilities [Page 224].

$101.6 Billion in cuts for Hospitals, Skilled Nursing Facilities, Long Term Care Hospitals, Inpatient Rehabilitation Facilities, Psychiatric Hospitals, and Hospice Care [Page 224].

$10.2 Billion in cuts to Medicare Disproportionate Share Hospitals [Page 234].

$40.1 Billion in cuts to Outpatient Hospitals, Ambulance Service, Ambulatory Surgical Centers, Laboratory Services, and Durable Medical Equipment [Page 265].

$4.3 Billion cut in payments for Imaging Service [Page 273].

$49.1 Billion in cuts for Home Health Care [Pages 307 and 308].

$171.8 Billion in cuts to Medicare Advantage [Pages 331 and 341].

Take the funding and benefits away from the sick and the elderly, and give it illegal immigrants, people of color, and those who refuse to lift a finger for their own station in life. This is called "redistribution of wealth."

Quote:
Instead of honest debate, we've seen scare tactics...Too many have used this as an opportunity to score short-term political points...And out of this blizzard of charges and counter-charges, confusion has reigned.

Pot, meet kettle. This backwards portrayal of civilized, open, and bi-partisan Democrats innocently reaching out to their unreasonable opponents who then lash out and refuse to work together is also provably, laughably erroneous.

House GOP Leader John Boehner (Ohio) told reporters that the president has not invited House GOP leaders to the White House for meetings on healthcare reform since the end of April.

Earlier this year, GOP leaders sent a letter to the president in May stating that they would like to work with the administration to find "common ground" on healthcare reform.

But the administration responded with a tersely worded letter indicating that they had healthcare reform under control.

And while selling ObamaCare as a mere cost-cutting initiative, they have refused to even mention (in over a thousand pages of text) the elephant in the room--frivolous lawsuits. Why? Because trial lawyers are huge campaign contributors to Democrats.

Please show me where I defended Joe Wilson? All I did was point out that it was a bit hypocritical the way people are blowing this into such a big deal - when these same people said nothing about what happened in the 2005 SOTU address. 2010 is still a long way away though (unfortunantly). Trust me, I will be out there doing my part to bounce those who infringe upon my privacy, my liberty, or trample the constitution way the hell out of office.

Along with the name calling, the rumor spreading and the outright sci-fi/horror film ("D" movie grade) scripting, there hasn't been too much in the alternate plan department from any side. People are still getting sick and dying while they have to fight for what insurance coverage that they might have and the politicos waste time with all of the aforementioned bull crap and partisan politics. With little or no regulation (that would be gov't overseeing) the health care insurers, like the the banks and financial firms, have run rampant.

So, alternative plans..... anybody got any? Or do we just keep up the same old "same old"?

We all need to stop the stone throwing and focus on solutions. Though I did not see Bush spelling out any solutions for S.S. Well he sort of had one... but he didn't go on about it. Raise the S.S. tax on all income over 200 grand limit it has now.

But as for as someone here looking for work or working, I don't care who they are, this Union is worth trash if we can't help them.

Maybe if we bring all the troops home from all over... we will all be able to see clearer with the log out of our eyes.

(Hey Dave, How did you post the Video Screen instead of just the link? Does html work here? Different sites have different ways of doing it.)

From Alex Bowles at Jon Taplin's Blog:

Quote:
Before the outburst, Rob Miller (the guy running against Joe Wilson) had raised a grand total of $30k for his campaign.

Sixteen hours later, he’s at $246,617 and climbing.

Oopsie.

A bright spot, after all!

According to FactCheck.com , pertaining to illegal immigrants' health care in the bill:
Quote:
Claim: All non-US citizens, illegal or not, will be provided with free healthcare services.

False. That’s simply not what the bill says at all. This page includes "SEC. 152. PROHIBITING DISCRIMINATION IN HEALTH CARE," which says that "[e]xcept as otherwise explicitly permitted by this Act and by subsequent regulations consistent with this Act, all health care and related services (including insurance coverage and public health activities) covered by this Act shall be provided without regard to personal characteristics extraneous to the provision of high quality health care or related services." However, the bill does explicitly say that illegal immigrants can’t get any government money to pay for health care. Page 143 states: "Nothing in this subtitle shall allow Federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States." And as we’ve said before, current law prohibits illegal immigrants from participating in government health care programs.

Less than 24 hours and it's over half a million and counting. Maybe Wilson is a Democrat sleeper!

I'm sorry...people of color? Really? We are all people of color. Do you mean somehow that there are some people here in America that don't deserve health care because of the color of their skin?

We are the only developed country in the world without a system to provide care to all of our CITIZENS--of all colors. It's time to change that. As for taking funding away from the sick and elderly, well that's just not true. There is a lot of fat to be cut--needless spending that hurts everyone. Republicans and Democrats both agree on that. Some of those cuts will enable the prescription doughnut hole to be closed. The idea here is to clean up the system, to regulate a completely unregulated money hungry industry, and to provide decent health care to all people. Who do you think is paying for the uninsured now?

As for John Boehner, I'd like to scratch that tan right off his face. Somebody had to say it.
