What are you doing for Mother Earth this week? (...and yes, I believe that EVERY day is earth day!)

I'm planting some shrubs around my house, and digging up the garden to prepare it for the seedlings that I've started.

I'm also riding my bike to work instead of taking the car.

Anyone have interesting plans?

It's an absolutely BEAUTFUL day on Mother Earth here in the Florida panhandle.....southerly breezes are bringing warm tropcal smells up to us from the Caribbean: all this and more happening beneath an indescribably dazzling blue and cloudless sky. I'm building a pretty good-sized garden pond out back for fish, tutles, frogs and almost anything else that wants to live there. I'm gathering native water plants from the many Lakes, ponds and springs we have close by, some of which are edible, to see which ones might like it here. The recirculation system operates by stage syphoning---no electric pump. I'm also looking into constructing a "bat house" to help with mosquito control during the summer. For this idea of 'keeping Mother Earth heathly enough to keep us healthy' to work, everybody's got to do as much as they can......No one can say "my little part won't make a difference" anymore!

I've started construction on my spaceship that will bring me to Mars.....in order to help give earth a break.Anybody got some dilithium cyrstals or a flux capacitor that they may not need?If not, if you got some gift cards from Home Depot they might help too.

i have some bottles of dutronium beads...just keep them away from the plants!

and it may be hard to keep on the shelves with the green mist people around!

I had forgot about it being Earth Day until I saw it on the news when my mom had the news on. I said that God wants us to take better care of mother earth & we probably don't. My mom said you believe in that crazy stuff & said it was a bunch of crazy stuff. Sigh. This si whay I recycle cans, newspapers & old magazines I don't want to keep...

there is also a section in the article that mentions herbicide...i know of people who use herbicides but i am not so sure about them and have not used them.

I didn't know there was such a thing as Mother Earth day, is it a American thing. It is a nice thing to celabrate. At the moment I've been following a TV lifestyle Program called River Cottage, it's all about growing your own food, finding and making the most of local produce. Recantly they have been launching a "Land share" scheme, For those who don't have a garden or and alotment to grow there own food, it puts people who have land they would like to share intouch with those who would like somewhere to grow.
I havn't been very lucky so far, but fingers cross.

You havc to buy them first, Larry, and last I heard, Arlo owns all the water rights. Always looking ahead.... or he needs another place to leave all the garbage.

Mars is THE market now. All downscale on the verge of going upscale with the renovations planned. I hear that as soon as the orbital reflectors come on line, it's going to be all pools, radiation domes and full-suit golf. The golfing of course, will be unfrikkin' real except of course the whole course is a sand trap. And the sand gators don't help. It's like playing in Florida except the gators own the course and treat us like edible caddies.

I've got some great sites picked out in Valles Marineris for condo development. It's a mile straight down but above, the sky is pink all day and the treculitic scarfavas can't turn to glide so if they swoop in on one of the kids, there's plenty of time for the NarcaPhotonic FavaBeams to blast 'em. I hear it's perfectly safe now and they cleared up all those bodies from the SherpaToon expedition. Eeewww!

I met this fella who used herbicide, pesticide and any other kind of poison he could find on his lawn. He was really mad at his neighbor because he didn't use any poisons and the dandelions kept moving over to this fella's yard. He had a number of plants that were completely deformed.

Thanks Larry, but I don't think two of the strawberry plants will make it in time. Maybe the Strawberrys would do better on mars, them both being red?

I started to prepare my flower garden. Some weeds needed to be pulled, still have more to go but I plan on a big beautiful garden this year.

I've never really heard about Earth Day, even if it's been celebrated for many years, but unfortunately, not still everywhere!
For Mother Earth, I garden without pesticide or fertilizer, I use an organic compost I made with leaves, grass...and I collect rainwater for the vegetable garden.
Yesterday, I found a new organic weedkiller in the garden : a rabbit ! I tried to work out a deal: it can stay if it eats weeds instead of salads or peas ….. but I don't really trust it, especially since it has come back this morning with a friend!

Greenpeace started Earth Day in 1970. I was living not far from where Wyld is now, in Colorado Springs. I hadn't thought about this in years, but I made up some flags with tie-dyed stripes like the American flag, but with the ecology symbol in place of the blue star field (see below). I sold them from a blanket on a sidewalk in Manitou Springs.

There's so many deer in this area, it's not worth the effort to have a vegetable garden. The deer cruelly tease you...you think, "Well, I'll go out and pick those tomatoes and baby squash that are ready for harvesting!" and you go out....and the plants will be GONE! Even with fencing, they'll eat the tomatoes; six foot tall vines and all...overnight. Or, they'll take one big bite out of every ripe tomato or vegetable. Me? I got tired of doing all that work for the deer to eat really well. I go to local farmer's markets and get my homegrown tomato fix that way.
The squirrels are almost as bad as the deer...one year, they chewed through the stem, just below the heads of all my sunflowers..making them fall off. They'll also nibble everything. Forget about having any sugar snap peas...they 'll eat them before you get a chance to pick.
