but a Lady, she never fared as well
who had traveled through so much!

Has anyone yet seen a video of Arlo playing All along the watch tower on a ukulele? I've heard of it being done. Hope someone has filmed it.

Sorry--I was more or less glued to the TV tonight; I'm sure that by November 4 I'll be tired of speeches, but there were some great ones tonight!

Thanks, Wyld, for pinch-hitting for me.

i was in a dirty little bar recently somewhere in the 50's and around 10th ave and drinking a round of Yuenling (from the bottle of course as stale beer is routine in this joint). A six pack of Yuenling for $36, I should have gone to the market and sat on the street. It was one of those late night New York moments though and I had the UK Clan in tow. They had never been in the city and were amazed at the energy and stuff and there I was with my new pork pie hat drinkin over priced beer after walking them on the "scenic tour". I did take them to the Empire State Building" after dark on a clear night and looked across the expanse of lights following Broadway Downtown and across the harbor to the chemical marshes of beautiful Northern New Jersey and then across the Hudson to the Weehawken cliffs where Burr shot Hamilton and just hours before I drove a 12 seater ford van filled with UK tourists through the Lincoln Tunnel and into midtown with white knuckles and all. Now I was resting in a shitty little bar paying too much for beer and thinking of William Burrough's in this very neighborhood selling stolen goods for a hot shot as some jazz cat snapped his fingers to Lester or Mingus or Bird...There I was...Dizzy Ratstein...muggin' to Lady Day and John Coltrane in the smelly dirty dive that I called home. Of course I came to to some cheesy drum driven 21 century sounds that were unfamilar to my ears and finished the beer before stumbling back to the security of a fine hotel to waste away until a new day!

the "faux pas" makes me think of when i was a kid (about eleven years old) and me and my two weird friends were cast to play the parts of the three weird sisters (naturally, right?) in macbeth for a class play...so at home i am holed up in a room practicing my lines,"double double toil and trouble, fire burn and cauldron bubble..." in the witchy voice and cackling and all...years later my brother (a couple of years younger) tells me when he heard that from the other side of the door he didn't know what to think!
