I've got a friend who is hurting really bad...she'll get through this, she has a lot of people who have stepped up to help out (me included) and I figure a few blundervibes sent her way couldn't hurt.
On Thursday night at the stable I volunteer at, another volunteer heard the sounds of a horse kicking down a stall wall. The horse, Corrina, a lovely dark bay Thoroughbred/Warmblood cross, trained for high level dressage, had colic; this is probably the #1 killer of horses, and most of the time, you don't know what caused it. They summoned Debbie (she runs the Rescue), the owner/breeder of the 10 year old mare (she raised her and trained her) and also called the vet. They walked Corrina around and around in the indoor arena, gave her painkillers and a tranquilizer, but it didn't help. The vet arrived and examined her, but there was nothing to be done because she had a twisted gut and she would not have survived a 1 1/2 hour trip to Leesburg VA Equine clinic. All they could do was end the terrible pain she was in with euthanasia, and when I arrived Friday morning, she was lying in the arena. They were making preparations to bury her on the property when I left for home yesterday. I think Debbie could use some blundervibes. As for Corrina, she's galloping over Rainbow Bridge, free of pain.

My heart goes out to her. Crits are, more often than not, better than most of us. We human animals are not worthy of all that they give us.

My mare who had never been sick in twenty years nearly died of colic 18 months ago. Last Mon evening she was ill again but recovered thank goodness.

It is often a mystery, what causes, it and you go over and over in your mind what could have, wondering.

You did your best to help sometimes thats all you can do.

My heart goes out to your friend Deb and to all of you who were there. We love our animal friends so much, but it's not an equal relationship--they depend on us, and even when we've done everything 'right,' we feel guilty when something goes so wrong. I hope Deb can focus on the good memories.

sorry to hear that Louise: Millie Sue and I lost our cat Codeine, a few mnths back.... she got really acting sick, so we took her to the vet, who did blood test and found out she had feline leukemia.... ( surely a death sentence for a cat ). We came to a mutual decicison to have her put down... Worst thing was I never really liked cats. Codeine was only 4.5 yrs. old.... ( I got her for Sue on her 39th birthday )( a pschiatrist friend told me , women surely need cheering up when they approach the big 40) and Sue loves cats....


So we cried like babys all the way home from the vets. and Millie Sue said she felt stupid as it was only a cat... I suggested she was wrong, as Codeine was much more than a cat!!!!
