U.Utah Phillips passed away this week.
I've been so busy with a local childrens dance recital this week that I
have gotten way behind on my emails...a friend of mine posted me
saying that Utah has passed away. The last time I spoke with him,
just a couple of months ago, we talked about meeting this summer
for dinner. He battled a heart condition and was actually HAPPY that
it had gotten worse because it meant that he was going to NOW qualify
for a heart transplant. He was leaving for the Bay Area to see some
doctors there who were expected to approve him for a new heart.
Apparently, as it will for us all...his time here on earth ran out. He was
a great man and was loved by many. Any of you who are unfamiliar
with his music should get a cd of his as soon as you can...his every song
was like a chunk of American history...much of his life was spent on the
rails as a hobo...traveling our great nation in a way that is now lost to
time forever. His songs were not just songs but a colloection of his
memories and the stories that he told between the cuts were truely
a part of legend now.
Rest in peace my brother...I'll never pick up my guitar again and not
play...Walking Through Your Town in the Snow. You are not now, nor
will you ever be lost to me...we are still on the road...it's just that you
have now moved on up ahead and around the bend a bit....I'll be seeing
you soon. Keep the campfire stoked and I'll be sure to bring along some
thing to share....
catman...ISYA
PS....my heart is hardened just a little bit more today...to be sure.
I'd LOVE to share some lyrics of his with you but...I'm a vista user...
everything I save goes in but never comes out....buy a cd...you won't
ever regret it.
