I saw a thing on the History Channel last night that predicted if oil/gas prices keep rising, then a lot of people won't be able to afford to drive to work which, in turn, would severely affect the economy (Duh! Ya think?!?).

You know how the police, in a show of solidarity, will all call in sick if they want something that's not getting done with labor negotiations, etc. (It's called the "blue flu")? Well, I wonder if the politicos, corporate vampires and big businesses would take notice if every one, everywhere called in sick on a specific day? It might give them a small scale glimpse of what's to come if the dummies keep going down the slippery slope path they're now leading us all down.

What if everyone including businesses and individuals decided that on a specific day would not drive their cars, trucks turn on the heat, watch TV or operate anything that consumes energy? Think of the billions of dollars of profits that would be lossed. If this wouldn't send a message that the people in this country are ticked off I don't know what would. I tell you if I lived close enough to work to ride a bike I would because I would like nothing more than to rid myself of the oil companies and OPEC.

The problem with a one day energy boycott is that people will make up for it the next day and the profits won't be affected.

We have had plenty of notice about energy problems and nothing has been done about it. Remember the shortages in the 70's? Our mass transit system stinks and is expensive, at least in NJ, Surcharges should have been placed on oil companies, car manufacturers should have been encouraged to come up with energy efficient cars years ago, 30 years ago. Our politicians are too indebted to big business to do anything constructive.

There is my list of complaints. Unfortunately I don't have a solution.

The problem is that driving to work is the least of it. Heating homes and buying any kind of goods and/or services is going to be an increasing problem. Everything's got to go up with along with the price per barrel, except wages, of course. They don't go up much anymore.

There was a March for Independence in DC. Planned for 7-4-08. But they switched it to the 12th, so they could March with another group who had planned one for the 7-12. There is also a call for a general strike starting on 9-11-08, to go on as long as things stay the same. There was even another article calling for the Truckers to step up to the plate, and take charge over the high price of fuel. Someday I hope someone ties all these together.
Marshal Law wouldn't last long in the Big Apple, for the Electricians there know how to turn all the lights red. lol

Think of our dear Folkslinger and his beautiful tour bus ... gotta be impacting the cost to tour around the country! Wonder how much more fuel has risen since this tour was priced out at the beginning! Ouch!

I'm lucky to work 2 miles away from home and have a good bike. But in my area people are still buying and driving their SUVs. I don't know what it's going to take to make people stand up in protest against this robbery!

Don't lose hope - we all have to do OUR part and not be discouraged when others don't. The adage "if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem" holds true. My household has been green for years and we get better at it every day. I just can't get discouraged when I look around and see the waste and lack of concern of the majority. What it will take, I just don't know.

Perhaps we need a new song written to sing!

I wasn't suggesting an energy boycott but an everything boycott. What would happen if a majority of people called in sick just plain didn't show up for their jobs? (Not including the important ones like hospitals, etc.) That very well may happen if people can't afford to drive to work.

I told my shrink last year, that when gas hits 4 bucks, all of we the people are going to feel like arlo talking to his first shrink.

I have thought about it. That tour bus must cost a fortune. It's going to affect smaller acts even more, in a way. My son's band just returned from a Southern run that would have made them a nice profit a year ago, but this time they're probably it's going to end up a loss by the time they pay out management and booking agents. The main difference is the price of gas.

I'm going to Bloomington, Il. on Friday (my daughter GRADUATES from Northern Illinois Univ. in DeKalb, Il. on Sat at 9AM - WHO graduates at 9AM!) Anyway, I'll ask Killer what's the impact is with these awful gas rates! Maybe Arlo needs to look into the "converter kit" for the McD's oil to fuel for his bus!!! He's so smart - propably done it already.

I do check the various sites that tell you the best rates for gas in the area. Killer is a smart cookie - I'm thinkin' she's checkin' them out, too! We ALL should!

Hang in there - we CAN do it and I see a change in the thinking of the young people...I'm a teacher and I see the kids being VERY invested in "thinking green'. We CAN change the world - one person at a time. As said for years - the youth is our future and in my school - they are!

Observation would suggest that it could be that the degree success in this and related ventures is directly related to ADD.

Somewhere out there are solutions. Our challange is to find them. When we do everything changes. M E oil profits dry up and we are no longer forced to fund and militarily prop up lame autocracies.

A new direction from our leadership (Obama) is a great place to start.
