Has anyone read about the North Koreans that were killed by firing squad for either trying to escape and for helping others to escape from North Korea? I don't really understand why there wasn't a whole lot of noise about the incident. Illegal aliens are a problem for any country but killing people because they are tired of starving and being oppressed? I just don't get it.

Yeah, well thats definitely some kind of civil rights violation.

But "Civil Rights Violation" sounds sort of survivable.

Line 'em up and shoot 'em - cause they wanted to leave, or help others leave - sounds much more harsh.

Whoever did this "almost" sounds like a murderer.

I wonder if he has weapons of mass destruction too.

We know how to take care of evil dictators we think have weapons of mass destruction, don't we.

Oh yeah, I forgot how that other dictator had oil reserves that would pay for the whole cost of the war. Does N. Korea have much oil reserves?

The truth is I hate one thing in life...Human Suffering...too bad we can't declare war on that.

I wonder if there will ever be a point in the future of the human race when there will be no fear of war, political opression, starvation, poverty and so on. I often wonder why it is that the human race has to be so destructive? This guy is pure evil and all the world seems to do is sweep him under the rug.

Maybe the Dali Lama should declare war on that. He says "People just want to be happy and avoid suffering." We may sin, but its not clear to me how that makes us sinners anymore.

Probably when there are no more humans. We don't seem to be too adept at avoiding or ending the above mentioned, do we? Well, nobody's perfect!

I totally agree, too, but at the same time, again last night Arlo reminded us that "This just might be the world we've all been hoping for; in a perfect world you'd have to go way out of your way to make a positive difference, but in a world that sucks (like this one) you don't have to do much to make a huge difference."

so here's my direct response to your earlier one...

North Korea has nothing we want but their support, and yes, if they had oil we might well have an invading force there.... instead,with the nuclear problem we have used money, diplomacy and cultural exchange.... the cultural exchange has been quite beautiful... and seems to be working...
that's our part.... the North Korean government is not a government of integrity..... and I am very concerned about our involvement with such a government that fosters such human rights atrocities...the US needs to take a clear and loud position against the harm and policies of this government and not send money....

because, as you said, that is the ultimate problem....

one of my personal favorite sayings i've seen in recent protests is
"Fighting for peace is like scr**ing for virginity"

so what i was trying to say was... let's
wage peace on human suffering...
