Terrie, Did you watch the show (I think it was the History Channel) on the Minoans on Crete and Santorini? They made a connection to Plato's dialogue describing Atlantis, although Plato seemed to reference a continent rather than an island. However, the link to the Egyptions was new to me as well as the fact that the explosive force of the Santorini volcano was about 100 times the size of Krakatoa. With the incredibly well preserved ruins and highly advanced architecture, Santorini tops my list of must see destinations.

Hi, LTAF. I've seen so many Discovery and History Channel shows that they all seem to blend together at this point. We have a LOT of volcanoes here in NM and several right at the western edge of Albuquerque. I've climbed a few of them! I've also collected some volcanic rocks from them (or nearby).

I'll choose "Volcanoes" since we're on that subject anyway. We played "Car Insurance Jeopardy" in class yesterday... it was great! I gave out a LOT of candy to my students!

It's interesting to imagine what New Mexico looked like way back when when the climate was a tropical rain forest with an abundance of live volcanoes. Must have looked very Mayan! We live on the eastern side of Sierras close to the Oens Valley and Mt. Whitney. Not much vegetation to cover up lots of geologic activity ranging from massive vertical displacement quakes to lots of small volcanoes that appear to be just regular hills from th ground but when you fly over them, they all have a hollowed out tops. I love to fly over them at low altitudes just as the sun rises.
