Im not saying that Ralph Nader wasn't a huge asset in his day - but unfortunately he is starting to look despirit for his last 15 minutes of fame instead of the "force" he could be. Its time for him to be a teacher not a warrior.

Too risky (for me) to write him in - even to make a point.

Wouldn't it have been interesting if Nader had run for something he could win? Then he could have been held accountable for his success/failure ratio and we could see how someone could keep all that purity intact and still stay in an elected office long enough to effect change.

Anyone can say things he says. People say them here all the time. Running for president just to stir things sounds OK, but in practice all he's doing is to slightly improve the rhetoric while things get worse. You can give him a pass on giving us Bush if you like, but I think since 2000 he's simply shown that he's as adept as any career politician at avoiding any responsibilities for his own actions.

I'm with you Pat, kinda sad isn't it.

Two thoughts:

Thought 1: I am highly sympathetic to the idea that two political parties cannot express the full range of American political ideas. BUT, Italy has as many parties as anyone could hope for, and look how well that has worked for them!

Thought 2: If the boat is listing so much that the waves are lapping over the starboard gunwale, it's only a fool who doesn't immediately sit his butt on the port side - even if it's not his favorite sittin' spot!

considering where we are, i think the analogy would have to be modified so that if we're all tilting way too far to the left, maybe someone's gotta stand back a little, and tilt a little less... otherwise our feet will get wet with all the conservative crap we're tryin' to sail away from....

Well, tilting the boat too far in either EXTREME direction could cause it to capsize. But regardlees of that, one thing on which we may all be able to agree is that we need to see Pat here again more often!

I've always been of the opinion that radical factions are sometimes needed to get the scales (in whatever imbalanced thingy) more towards a median balance. It may seem a little too much at times but may be necessary to get enough people pulled over from the "heavy" side over to the side that needs 'em to achieve the balance. I ain't talkin' about nasty stuff, like violence, etc. I'm way with the Beatles on that one:

"But when you talk about destruction
Brother you know that you can count me out!"

But I do think that radical movements help to pull the peeps more toward the middle. Look at what the anti-war and feminist movements did in the past. It took people takin' it to the streets to get the general populace off their collective kiesters.

Unions have been broken, while big business has gotten stronger. We don't want bb's homes, just the Unions to spread out the cash. Nader is talking of Big Bus. though I'm not sure where he is on Unions. Perot did the same thing in 92 and bb. still rules.

He should go away and do whatever it is that he's been doing. Hopefully folks won't throw their votes away on him.
