I spend at least 45 Tuesday evenings a year with the good folks there...and I've done that for about 14 years. We ARE family...my kids do consider the regular crowd to be extended family members, and my daughter Laura attends most weeks by choice. For her, it's like going to visit all her aunts and uncles and cousins who've watched her grow from a shy 12 year old to an adult. Those folk music lovers are a bunch of kind, generous people who will not hesitate to help if there's need. Kinda like a church congregation stepping in, but the unifying medium is music. About 70% of the regulars are musicians themselves, so it's easy to find other musicians to play with or back your set at the spur of the moment. I would have a very hard time leaving this area, because I know there's not another folk club quite like this one.

I just got the news that John passed away last night. I had heard on Tuesday that he hadn't been doing well; he had another serious infection and they didn't hold out much hope. He's at peace now.

Blundervibes to you and those who cared for John. You gave him love and comfort and friendship; the best life can offer, really.

John may have not had relatives here in the U.S, but it's clear he did have family. R.I.P John.

Yep, he did have "family." His cousin will arrive soon, and this week his related family and his Folk Club family will attend to the funeral stuff. After...I predict a gathering of friends, good food and lots of musical instruments, just like he'd like it.

I'm hoping this is it...two friends passing in one week is a little much to deal with.
