Saw Arlo in concert last night in Durham NC. Sold out crowd, Great show. Of course there were a lot of denim shirts and jeans in the place, but the granny glasses were bifocals and like me we were all remembering a time past. there were some youngsters in the crowd, so maybe there are still some who will carry the torch of conscience into the future.

I was in Durham last night, too. I live closer to the VA line, but Hampton, Charlottesville, and Richmond were all sold out or nearly so by the time I got paid and could get tickets--so this tour must be going well.

I got turned around trying to get back to my hotel, and was finally back on the right road about an hour after the show when Arlo's bus and the cars following it ended up in front of me and turned into a Taco Bell parking lot. (All of us vegetarians and nearly vegg folks know that's the only fast food option for us!) Hope they got his order right.

It was a great show in a beautiful theater. I was impressed with the instrumentals--H. Farewell (won't attempt to spell that) sounded so full even with only one guitar and no steel. The St. Louis Tickle and the other bouncy pieces were hot. The crowd was very responsive where I was in the first balcony--lots of lovely harmony from the woman behind me who could have given me a run for my money in a game of Arlo Trivial Pursuit. He does attract a great, smart, aware (and self-congratulatory) kind of audience.

I also got lost trying to get to the theater--could see where it was but kept ending up on one way streets or ones that split and took me further away--I didn't get to my seat until about 8:20--what was the comment he made later about the picture about?

There was a photographer on stage before the show started taking a photo of the audience for the next cover of their playbook for the Carolina.
I saw him once before in Raleigh in 1993 and loved it, truely magical.
Got tickets in the front of the second balconey but with opera glasses it was fine. Luckey to have tickets!

Don't know if he is headed up your way any time soon. I do know if he is back this way I will do it again. Th man can play guitar and even though he tells the same stories night after night in different towns it is always fresh and he never seems to mind doing his anthem over and over again.It is also nice to realize I am not the only one who has gained a few pounds since 1968

I'm looking forwards to seeing a show.
There are two dates again in Germany. I hope I could go to Eisenach.

So glad to hear how this show went. We had been wondering how it went. We would've gone to this show if he hadn't done 4 shows in VA the weekend before. I have been to this theatre to see him in the past & enjoyed it. I noticed one of ya'll was from Gates, NC. Isn't that near Ahoskie? If It is we've been near there before. Hope Arlo enjoyed his Taco Bell...

Looking forward to the May shows at Epcot, just noticed that the schedule here lists it as Arlo Guthrie & the Guthrie Mountaineers. I imagine it will be a family reunion show.

Gates, NC IS near Ahoskie, a bustling metropolis with its own Wal-Mart and Food Lion. Gates has a post office and a feed store. What else do you need?

You and I sat together in the first row at the Richmond Mosque a couple of years ago. That was a lucky seat--I had a pair of tickets, and my friend surprised me and brought along a guest. I thought there wouldn't be anything available at the door the night of the show, but when they said, "Well, there's one by itself... in the front row," I selflessly gave up the seat I'd already paid for and agreed to sacrifice and sit without my friends. Seemed like the least I could do.

A similar lucky thing happened in Greensboro when I called the day before a show at that city's Carolina Theater and found out that a row of metal chairs were being placed in the orchestra pit. I ended up looking up Arlo's nose, but what a fine nose it was.

I actually love this kind of venue for a show, places like Wallnut Creek and the RBC center are so large you end up watching the show on a large screen TV. I love being in a Theater like the Carolina .
In 94 I saw Alo at the Realito Theater in Raleigh and it was a magical evenig. I was with someone who was as enchanted by the show and the feeling it invoked as I was. We both will never be able to explain that to anyone.
Hell I will never be 20 again but it is great to be reminded how great it was.

The old theaters that are being renovated around the country ARE wonderful, and there's a vibe that the audience picks up in beautiful places that have a story. The American Theater in Hampton is another spot where Arlo stops. It had been a burlesque house! It's a beautiful old facility, too.

I wonder sometimes what our grandkids will think of all the concrete boxes we've built in place of all the grand old buildings OUR grandparents and great grandparents built. No one seems to think "pretty" is worthwhile anymore, and we're all the worse for it.
