Hey - the best to all of you. I heard about Art B. too and was it was amazing how he turned the situation around. I think it's one of the best gifts we can give - to be with someone as the end approaches. We receive so much as well. I had a friend who I was able to spend time with at the end - and it was truly a gift to share the time together. Hang in there and offer kisses from me. I KNEW I had forgotten someone on the Xmas card list this yr. It was Mrs. T... I sorta felt bad, but after reading this whole thread, looks like anytime would be a good time, to send Mrs. T mail...

It also reminds me of what a special friend that Reg ( and JohnC) are. You won't meet people like that everyday.... I sure miss you guys. It's been awhile... Being a Grandad, is rewarding, but I sorta hate long distance relationships... BUT, God-willing, Sue and I are heading to Illinois next mnth, to pick up Zoee and bring her back here to St. Law. County for a couple wks, while her parents are vacationing in California....

Sue and I are thinking of excuses 'just why' we can't bring her home, when the two wks are over... Car don't work> ? We're broke... ( wouldn't be lying there) Gas is too high?? ect.... But with allot of forethought, we don't wanna be arrested for kidnapping...

That's what I hate most about sending xmas cards. I always forget someone... I have 6 sisters. YUP, six... And I forgot one..... Oops. Me bad..

Told mom what Mrs. T was going to (the actual cookie baker), and that she had enjoyed some cookies ... she says she is keeping you all in her thoughts and sending lots of healing Reiki energy. John says to say he's thinking of you all too. (We all love Mrs. T even though we never met her.)

LisaC - trying not to bore those who know, but to answer your question... I love talking about Mrs. T, because its the only part of my childhood I talk about. I've known Mrs. T. since I was 11. Her house was "up the dirt hill" and "under the fence" from my parents house.

She is my best friends mother, but more than that, when my parents were not capable of caring for me - esp as a teenager - Mrs. T., who was a single parent (widowed at 37) in the 60's (not easy now -but can you imagine in the 60's?) had me under foot most of the time. She was the one who would yell at me for my skirts being too short, or my hair too teased or bleached. She taught me about having to work for what you wanted. (Even tho it was always Michele who ended up doing the work - I learned lesson LOL) She occasionally fed me (the best food in the world). She always let me hide out at her house and watch Star Trek(even over night) when things at my house were a little too - restless.

We abused her kindness as all teens will...calling her at 10pm on a Sat. nite to come get us from the mall in a snow storm, because no one else would. Even tho when she dropped us off, she would say - "you better find someone else to come get you" - because im not coming back for you" - she ALWAYS would. She was the only one who would. I celebrated almost every teen birthday at a party in her basement & swam in her pool every summer.

Michele stood loyal too me too - EVERY TIME I got, or I got her, in trouble. (almost got her beat to crap one day cause I called the hoodiest hood in our high school "an idiot"...and when she literally surrounded us with her seriously tough friends - and demanded an appology - I reared up my full 5'2" and said - "Im sorry you're an idiot". I saw Michele's eyes close, cause she knew what was coming next!!! But she never left my side.

Thru the years, Ive called Michele my spine and my kick in the butt. She's seen me thru illadvised marriages, divorces, 25+ address changes, jobs, no jobs, & love affairs. She was the one who had to tell me that my father died, cause no one in my family had. (Very) Lately, she took a 1/2 day off of a job that doesnt let up, in attempts to intervene between me and my latest stress. Ive had the priviledge of watching her BEAUTIFUL (Im not kidding like model like georgeous) twins grow up. (Even tho my plans of her marrying my brother didnt pan out! LOL)

One night - the night I really thought we would lose Mrs.T., (She's 85 by the way) I was sitting in her room, she was in a deep deep sleep - I refuse to say coma...but it was close. I kept staring at her and then out the door and back. After an hour of breathing every breath with her, I happened to be looking at her when she opened her eyes just a little, saw me there and smiled, and then gently went back to sleep. It was amazing. A moment I will never forget.

Mrs. T told me recently that she was not happy with Michele hanging out with me when we were kids - becuase I was a bad influence. Michele got straight A's, Honor Society, & a medical degree from NYU. Me - Im just me. But one night when I bounded into the hospital room, making her & and an exhausted Michele laugh - Mrs. T said "Regina - You'll NEVER change!" We laughed and I said "But is that a good thing?" and she said YES, it is! That made me feel so loved.

I've gone on too long...but that's who Mrs. T & Michele are to me...and it thrills me when the nurses in the hospital say - "Oh both daughters are here!"

PS - The reason for my posting - She is doing so very much better. Last night instead of a hosptial gown she had red silk jammies & jewelry on, had gotten her hair done. She's scheduled for a perm on the 21st! Miracles, Blundervibes...whatever you want to call it...I thank you all so much.

one could only be so lucky Reg, to have a friend like you. Mrs. T seems to be a testiment, that genes aren't always what they're cracked up to be. Our brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers, come in many varietys....

It's like the old redneck saying here in North New York... " You can choose your friends, but you can't choose your relitives".... Well sometimes you can... .... but it doesn't necessarily have to be a genetic thing....

* it reminds me sorta like me Mom. The city I live in is a small one. None-the-less, when my mom was alive, she was the ONLY other Brown that I was related to, here in Town....

Getting tagged with the last name Brown, is like, Smith or Jones. ( I would imagine ) People get cornered, run outta things to say, and always ask, are you related to this Brown, or that Brown... It was allot easier when Jeanette ( my mom ) was alive. Cause I had that story to tell... Now all I can say is NOPE.....

I like your style of writing Regina. Even at a glance, a person can tell, it comes straight from the heart.....
