president Bush pardoned a turkey in the rose garden today, as is presidential custom prior to thanksgiving. Of course if you count Scooter Libby, it's the second turkey he pardoned this year, but before he pardoned today's turkey, he had it interrogated by the CIA and waterboarded.

of course he did refer to waterboarding as "basting", but would neither confirm or deny that it took place.
it's unclear at this time if he pardoned the turkey before or after he ate him.

A group from the Berkeley Plantation here in VA claims that the first Thanksgiving celebration took place there, long before the pilgrims left port, a full year and seventeen days before it was celebrated in MA. Native pork was served...so a group trying to correct history tried to get President Bush to pardon a pig, along with the turkey he traditionally pardons before Thanksgiving. He did make a visit to Berkeley Plantation, but there's no pardon for the pig. A White House spokesperson said, "He's focused on the turkey."

(Take this to SNOPES!!!)

Bank of America, can I help you?

Customer: Yes, I want to cancel my account. I don't want to do business with you any longer.

The Bank: Why?

Customer: You're giving credit to illegal immigrants and I don't think it's right. I'm taking my business elsewhere.

The Bank: Well, Mr. Customer, we don't want to see you do that, but we can't stop you. I'll help you close the account. What is your account number?

Customer: (gives account number)

The Bank: For security purposes and for your protection, can you please give me the last four digits of your social security number?

Customer: No?

The Bank: Mr. Customer, I need to verify your information, but in order to help you, I'll need verification of who you are.

Customer: Why should I give you my social security number? The reason I'm closing my account is that your bank is issuing credit cards to illegal
immigrants who don't have social security numbers. You are targeting that audience and want their business. Let's say I'm an illegal immigrant and you've given me a credit card. I have a question about it and call for assistance. You wouldn't be asking me for a Social Security number, would you?

The Bank: No sir, I wouldn't.

Customer: Why not?

The Bank: Because you would have pressed '2' to speak in Spanish. We don't ask for that information when calling in on the Spanish line.

I provided 'snopes' for doubters: http://www.snopes.com/politics/immigrat ... merica.asp

Now...

I hope the following 14 reasons are forwarded over and over again until they are read so many times that the reader gets sick of reading them. I have included the URL's for verification of the following facts.

11. During the year of 2005 there were 4 to 10 MILLION illegal aliens that crossed our Southern Border also, as many as 19,500 illegal aliens from Terrorist Countries. Millions of pounds of drugs, cocaine, meth, heroine and marijuana, crossed into the U. S from the Southern border.Homeland Security Report: http://tinyurl.com/t9sht

12. The National Policy Institute, 'estimated that the total cost of mass deportation would be between $206 and $230 billion or an average cost of between $41 and $46 billion annually over a five year period.' http://www.nationalpolicyinstitute.org/ ... tation.pdf

yes it bothers me...

what bothers me is the one sided views being used in some cases for justifications. what bothers me is the persistant use of the term "illegal aliens" to categorize an entire set of persons, documented and undocumented, who would more normally be called immigrants, but it's more incindiery to use such slanted terms (sort of like saying "partial birth abortion" to drum up a crowd)
what bothers me is that for a country that has the Statue of Liberty sitting at our gateway, with the words "Give me your tired, your poor..." we show an amazing lack of respect and sympathy and gratitude for who came before us, who come now, and who might yet come. This country was founded by immigrants, legal and otherwise. How many of us have our roots elsewhere? How many of us have some relative whose entry to these shores might have been less than kosher?
What services, what monies, what benefits have been denied to you because of some immigrant receiving assistance. What part of our economy today would not be impacted if you just wholesale deported all immigrants?
these are tough situations for everybody, but stirring up such anti-immigrant sentiments does not bode well.

okay, i'll step down from this flimsy soapbox, it's not mine...

Don't worry! Bush is trying to start WW III to take our attention away from all of the other stupid crap he's done. I mean, who will be thinking of high oil prices, the dropping dollar and the national debt, not to mention Iraq, when they're stuck in a fallout shelter? Uh, oh! I hope I didn't give him any ideas!

Hmmm.... perhaps we could think of a more politically correct term for pedophiles so we don't drum up any crowds - oh wait, I forgot, they are called "sex offenders". Can we perhaps put a spin on serial killers so it doesn't sound as bad?

I don't think the point was to pigeonhole all immigrants... I'm sure there are many who follow the laws set in place and are here legally. In fact to me, it seems as if it's a slap in the face to those who studied, learned our language, and went through all the proper proceedures to enter and become citizens of this country. As I've said before, why the fuck bother creating laws and putting them in place if all that is going to be done is to just simply ignore them.

And what's even odder is how the Statue was given to us by France... How does the general population of France feel about Americans in general?

Wait.... I forgot about 'Ethnic cleansing'. I'm sorry, some shit just needs to be called what the fuck it really is. Oh wait, maybe 'ethnic cleansing' is just totally irrelevant since it never happened (being sarcastic for those who may be somehow "challenged").

'Twas the month before Christmas
When all through our land,
Not a Christian was praying
Nor taking a stand.
You see the PC police had taken away
The reason for Christmas--no one could say.

The children were told by their schools not to sing,
About Shepherds and Wise Men and Angels and things.
It might hurt people's feelings, the teachers would say
December 25th is just a "holiday".

Yet the shoppers were ready with cash, checks, and credit.
Pushing folks down to the floor just to get it!
CDs from Madonna, an X-box, an I-pod
Something was changing, something quite odd!
Retailers promoted Ramadan and Kwanza
In hopes to sell books by Franken and Fonda.

As Targets were hanging their trees upside down
At Lowes the word - Christmas - was not to be found.
At K-Mart and Staples and Penney's and Sears
You won't hear the word - Christmas - it won't touch your ears.
Inclusive, sensitive, di-ver-si-ty
Are words that were used to intimidate me.

Now Daschle, now Darden, now Sharpton, Wolf Blitzen
On Boxer, on Rather, on Kerry, on Clinton!
At the top of the Senate, there arose such a clatter
To eliminate Jesus in all public matters.
We spoke not a word, as they took away our faith
Forbidden to speak of salvation and grace.

The true Gift of Christmas was exchanged and discarded.
The Reason for the Season stopped before it started.
So as you celebrate "Winter Break" under your "dream tree"
Sipping your Starbucks, listen to me.
Choose your words carefully, choose what you say:

Shout MERRY CHRISTMAS, not Happy Holidays!

'Twas The (Politically Correct) Night Before Christmas:

'Twas the night before Christmas and Santa's a wreck...
How to live in a world that's politically correct?
His workers no longer would answer to "Elves".
"Vertically Challenged" they were calling themselves.
And labor conditions at the north pole
Were alleged by the union to stifle the soul.

Four reindeer had vanished, without much propriety,
Released to the wilds by the Humane Society.
And equal employment had made it quite clear
That Santa had better not use just reindeer.

So Dancer and Donner, Comet and Cupid,
Were replaced with 4 pigs, and you know that looked stupid!

The runners had been removed from his sleigh;
The ruts were termed dangerous by the E.P.A.
And people had started to call for the cops
When they heard sled noises on their roof-tops.

Second-hand smoke from his pipe had his workers quite frightened.
His fur trimmed red suit was called "Unenlightened."

And to show you the strangeness of life's ebbs and flows,
Rudolf was suing over unauthorized use of his nose
And had gone on Geraldo, in front of the nation,
Demanding millions in over-due compensation.

So, half of the reindeer were gone; and his wife,
Who suddenly said she'd enough of this life,
Joined a self-help group, packed, and left in a whiz,
Demanding from now on her title was Ms.

And as for the gifts, why, he'd ne'er had a notion
That making a choice could cause so much commotion.
Nothing of leather, nothing of fur,
Which meant nothing for him. And nothing for her.

Nothing that might be construed to pollute.
Nothing to aim. Nothing to shoot.
Nothing that clamored or made lots of noise.
Nothing for just girls. Or just for the boys.

Nothing that claimed to be gender specific.
Nothing that's warlike or non-pacific.

No candy or sweets...they were bad for the tooth.
Nothing that seemed to embellish a truth.
And fairy tales, while not yet forbidden,
Were like Ken and Barbie, better off hidden.

For they raised the hackles of those psychological
Who claimed the only good gift was one ecological.

No baseball, no football...someone could get hurt;
Besides, playing sports exposed kids to dirt.
Dolls were said to be sexist, and should be passe;
And Nintendo would rot your entire brain away.

So Santa just stood there, disheveled, perplexed;
He just could not figure out what to do next.

He tried to be merry, tried to be gay,
you've got to be careful with that word today.
His sack was quite empty, limp to the ground;
Nothing fully acceptable was to be found.

Something special was needed, a gift that he might
Give to all without angering the left or the right.
A gift that would satisfy, with no indecision,
Each group of people, every religion;

Every ethnicity, every hue,
Everyone, everywhere...even you.
So here is that gift, it's price beyond worth...
"May you and your loved ones enjoy peace on earth."
