I hardly ever come here anymore. Arlonet has changed. I've changed. I'm not saying it's good or bad - it just 'is'. I guess I'm stating the obvious.

I was about to start baking 'Carnegie Cookies' and decided to check out the boards. For some reason I went back and was reading 'The Coven's Crap' thread. It brought back a lot of memories. Ok - maybe not a lot. My mind isn't what it used to be - but it did bring back memories!

Many people have come and gone through here over the years. The site has been through many incarnations. I've loved and not loved, liked and not liked, missed and not missed many people.

One truth I know: Todd was real. Todd is real. I miss Todd.

I miss him, too...but he's still around! If you pay attention, he's there, sittin' on the steps of the church, making smartass comments while I do the flowers in October and May. I can feel him there. And Gaye is still the first one in line!

I only knew him online, but he's a lot of the reason I quit 'lurking' and signed up and started posting. It's not ALL Arlo's fault; some of it is Todd's fault.

For the first time I met him at the Gaithersburg craft fair - shortly after I started ArloNet I think... Todd made an impression on me. It wasn't until later on that I really got a glimpse of the man himself. The one thing I remember most about Todd though - he always had a smile on his face. It's funny how such a little thing can make such a big impression and stay with you.

Todd is alive and well... and I'm thankfull for having known him. There is a part of him that touched my soul. And he will always live on in my memories, my heart, and here at ArloNet.

I may just have to go drink a Guinness now.... :)

Todd and mushy stuff huh?
Well, I ain't any more mushy than Todd was, like I said before , it's a guy thing. A couple of things that I remember well about Todd and "Mushy" are as follows:

I was sitting around the church once years ago with Todd, and he had kinda been given the run of the place. He went on to tell me that one should not trust an addict, recovering or otherwise, when there are things around that may be taken to help fund an addiction. He valued greatly the relationship he had with those at the church , including of course Arlo and the Guthrie clan. He explained to me that the trust he had in those people was very important to him, and that "he would not steal from these people", as he put it. I replied very matter of factly that I would not steal from anybody. A year or two later, he brought this conversation up and told me that my simple off the cuff matter of fact statement had an effect on him. You never know, huh?

We all know that Todd had his demons regarding addictions, and his faults as we all do. He never hid this stuff from people, being the real guy he was. I would talk to him when he was sick and failing, and he once referred to my friendship with him as "unconditional love", merely because I accepted him as a friend with whatever faults he had. So, Todd hating the mushy stuff? Don't bet the farm on it.

But ain't it great to have known someone who we all still miss after so much time has gone by.
We all need a good crash test dummy to talk to once in our lives.
