My only other question is why wouldn't you vote for Hillary, unless you just don't think she can get the job done?

Which job? At this point, there's a boat load of 'em!

You can say that again. Dubya has left some substantial built-in challenges as well as built-in failures for the next guy/gal to deal with.

your post is truly not offensive to me, MG.... i applaud debate and discussion especially "In Times Like These"....

you have written an eloquent and smart political statement to support your candidate... and the question is "Why not vote for Hillary?"....

first, I want to ask myself why am I voting for " " ? ....that's my biggest hope, as faint as I might be.... that I may vote for someone that really impresses me with their dedication to all the jobs that need to get done...including the unraveling of Constitutional rights that is more massive than we even know....

so what about Hillary? or Obama? or any candidate?.... I worked really hard last year(with many others) to get progressives all over the country elected ... and it happened... way more than we could have possibly hoped ...

and what have we gotten??.... i don't think much of anything... nearly a year has passed and what has changed?.... or even started to change?...
all i can think of is that we know even more than we did.... and it goes unchallenged...

so this time, I ask these candidates... not what do you have to promise?....but... what have you done? what are you doing?...

so, with her years in Congress, what has Hillary done?.... you don't need to be president to take a stand to fight for your beliefs, to stay clean and distance yourself from powerful lobbies... tell me...i'm truly asking...
..what has she done????.... so i won't still be hung up on her very wishy washy voting re: the Iraqi war...that's a big hang-up...

i'm leaning toward Dodd at the moment... you know what he did this week?... a bill pending in the Senate would have given Verizon and other telecommunications companies retroactive immunity for illegally giving information to the Justice Department ...you know, wiretapping calls per the Executive Office.... what????!!!!! and why???!!!.... so-called progressive "give-em hell" Harry Reid was about to let it slide in for a vote...knowing it would pass...because that was the agreement with the White House....

Dodd caught it and put a hold on the bill... keeping it from a vote.... it only takes one...just one... Senator to do that.... and he did it... to get elected?... i don't care.. he did it... current Jay Rockefeller...largely supported by these companies is trying to roundabout it back to a vote...

just one thing, yes....but i'm going to look at what these candidates have done in the last few years and what they are doing now... and base my vote on that... if i can....

so tell me, if you will, why Hillary?....

No offense taken here. Your post makes me feel better about pulling that imaginary silver handle (we vote by mail here) no matter who the nominee is.

Hehehe

There is talk about the Evangelical Christian right wing creating a third political party, because they are not satisfied completly with the choice of republicans after the recent "values convention" thing they had. They are, from reports I have read, waiting to see how the republican field plays out first.
Even being raised as a Christian, it is clear to me that these folks have more in common with The Taliban and Muslim exetremist groups than they do with most thinking Americans and most Christians. Might not be a bad thing if it happens, because it may lead to a "Ralph Nader effect" in some future election.

I think that the primaries are a perfect time to support whomever you want to. Even if that candidate doesn't win, making a good showing has got to be a good thing for whatever message he/she is trying to deliver.

When I said don't fear Hillary, I really meant if she's the candidate in the general. Remember how people thought that Al Gore was the lesser of two evils? Doesn't look so evil from here, right? Hillary would probably be a good president. Certainly she'd be infinitely better than anyone the Republicans nominate. As far as the primaries are concerned. I'm not sure who I'm voting for yet. Won't matter. Hillary's going to win NY no matter what my vote is, I'm sure. Used to be our primary was late enough so the vote here was usually moot. In this case, I just think it's going to be no contest.

Larry, your mouth to God's ears. It would be wonderful if the Christian Right fielded an independent. I don't think it's going to happen, because they're led by some very savvy politicians disguised as clergy. I think that third party talk is all power play by Dobson, et al, but I hope I'm wrong.

Now, I'm off to beautuful NJ for a couple of days for a family wedding.

Have fun at the wedding. I don't think the right will endorse an independent. Lieberman would be a good one. But he'd never get it cuz the lefites don't like him...

Oh, absolutely, Pat--I'll be behind her 100 percent in the general election, and I do think she'll get the nomination. There's not a Dem. candidate that I wouldn't back wholeheartedly then. It's just so nice to have something approaching real choices here, and to have the luxury of weighing the relative merits of more than one person I could want to vote for. Hope the family wedding affords some R&R and fun time for you.
