What was your nickname when you were a kid and why?

My nickname when I was a kid was...(always with affection)

Dibbsy Debsy Droopsy Drawers. WHY? Cause I was always hitchin' my drawers up! When I wore overalls one strap was always hangin' down. In Oregon, my best friend Dana was always so neat, but my shirt was always hangin out, my hair was ruffled and windblown from tearing around riding horses and gettin' dirty and stuff. OH except on Sundays for Church when I had to wear a DRESS and HAT and GLOVES which matched my sister who is 7 years older. (what a little angel)
When I watch To Kill a Mockingbird I see myself in Scout. Heck some people call me that now! I can still dress up when I have to, and if I may say so myself I think I scrub up pretty good,but feel much more like me when I'm playing in the dirt at work or home or hangin out with my horse.

OH, another one, given to me by my sister's husband,just before I hit
puberty, was TURNPIKE. Well that soon changed !!

Never really had a nickname. Did kinda have one as a kid. When I was a little kid my mom got a Christmas stocking embroidered for me. They couldn't fit my name on it so they put Sherry on it for short. So occasionally my mom might call me Sherry. My cb radio name was Electric Lady. For some reason that came to me in the 70's & I dunno why...

As you might expect, I grew up being called Susie, and that's what old friends and family members (Mom, brother, sisters and their spouses, nieces and nephews) still call me. I'll answer to it! To differentiate between me and my cousin, Suzanne, aunts, uncles, cousins and fraternal grandparents called me Sue Ellen. Local friends call me Sue or Susie. It's all the same to me..!

I guess it was because "Shelley" already sounds like a short version of something--it isn't--but I never had a nickname until some Blunderites started calling me by my online username "Ceashel" (I used it here because "Shelley" was already taken.) Through the years, though, I've been called Sherry and Sheila and all kinds of things. I always say if it starts with an "S" and isn't rude, I'll answer to it.

Up until I was about 10 my grandmom always called me Mabel. Never had any explanation. When she apparently thought I outgrew that she switched to calling me Donna. Maybe she just never liked the name Diane.

They use to call me louie louie in the 70's for it rymed with dewey in that song louie lou eye.
Leoburg came from 2 of my favorite cities. Lemon-minister and Fitchburg.
(Spelt Leominster, though it has from time to time felt like Lemon-Town.)
Now I wake up calling myself leo.

Well, I really did not have a pet name or a permanent nickname growing up. When I was in grammar and middle school I was called the M ending with L(too disturbing to reveal) word by mean kids because I was the shy, quiet, preserved type off in my own world, if I was asked a question my only answer was "I don't know"
In my senior year in high school one teacher called me L. It had to do with the way I made my cursive L, was identical to the cursive L on Laverne DeFazio's (Laverne and Shirley)shirts

Now he's got us curious as to what his nickname is...

Fun thread! Thanks! All through school, My nickname was Kelly - from the show I SPY which my friend Andrea and I loved. Andrea and I were crazy about tennis and if you remember Kelly and Scotty's "cover" were tennis Pro's. Thus I was Kelly and she was Scotty.

When I worked in the hospital my friend (then Boss) Phil used to call me and Viv Thelma and Louise - although I dont remember which is which now - I was the instigator that got the other one in trouble all the time. Would it clear things up to mention Phil is a Psychiatrist???

LOL!!! I wish it was "magical" It's such a shame I was not blessed with teleklentic powers just to get even with them bullies and have a Carrie White episode.

Well, early on it was "Double D" as that would be my initials...(no, I didn't and still don't have man-boobs). Once I started workin for the feds some of my co-workers dubbed me with another name entirely - Arlo... (since they knew about my involvement here and such, and I still had the long hair). One guy dubbed me "Bethoven" I think again due to the hair - but I still don't understand that one, and he was the only one to use it. Then of course, you all know where "Wiz" came from...
