Been there, done that.

Back in the early part of the 1800's, a Mexican Governor named Martinez (*edit,..... I first thought it was Santa Anna), offered FREE LAND to American settlement; provided that the settlers raise corn and wheat and beans. (Not HIS idea, but was his agreement with an American businessman, Stephan Austin).

The Americans settled upon the free land in what is now, Texas... and grew,......... cotton?

Cotton was NOT a crop that would feed Mexico's people, and so Santa Anna (then Presidente), began making political changes in law... to adequately (and violently) deal with the lack of co-operation coming from the American settlers. (Violent restitution began before Santa Anna,..... but he was SOOO good at it).

But Sam Houston kicked Santa Anna's ass, and we took Tejas away from Mexico, by force. We capped an exclamation point on our ownership of said land in 1848.

(Because we wouldn't grow corn).

But today,..... making Mexico a state of the American Union, (or several), kinda makes good sense.

Why not? :D

The last time I heard of a President sending ... like..... $30 MILLION DOLLARS in financial aid to Mexico, I was thinking..... wouldn't it be cheaper just to buy it, outright?

Could the quality of life improve as much as I THINK it could in Mexico... if we made it officially part of America?

(It could work, I think).

Do you guys have any idea just what it has become living in the Reconquesta Third World we've got here in California. What your saying is not in the least bit funny. Well some of it may have been but not the part about making Mexico a state.

When the farmers say they need help picking crops here, what they mean is they need illegal labor that they can pay a token fee to while the honest citizens trying to play by the rules gets stiffed paying for their helps medical and all of the other social services they can suck dry, and believe me they are master at it.

I'm sort of sorry I brought up the subject on this message board but I was hoping Mr. Guthrie could help. This seemed like to happy a place to broach the subject.

Here are some message boards that are better suited for stopping the criminals in the government, business and the illegal invasion.

Here is the news if you think the Reconquesta is going to be good for your grandchildren. This is the paper that the socialist and others that support the Federal Government and their illegal, illegal immigration policies use. Not many facts are true in it. It's on par with the other main stream media's honesty on this subject. It's also good one to watch for their plans of attack.

Hey, the Native American Indians could ask us all to go back where we came from. I don't think they would. So we better get use to those 12 million or more, or is it 300 million or more.

Hopefully, my tongue-in-cheek response was easily identified. But, we don't have to look very far around the world to see what is happening regarding large migrations of people. The same thing is happening within countries and between continents. People flocking to cities in China, leaving the countryside; people moving from Africa and the Middle-East to Europe, as well as people moving to the USA from the southern borders. Asia is moving to Canada. There's a hell of a lot of people, in the millions going somewhere else.

One thing is clear, outdated rules and regulations to deal with this are outdated and are being ignored. People will go where they think its safe. For many it's just better to go somewhere than to stay where they are. For others, it's a matter of life and death. That's just the way we are as human beings.

It's like a ship sinking off the coast. Everyone who can swim is going to the nearest piece of land, and they're going to ignore any laws to get there. They're not going to simply tread water waiting to fill out the proper forms, and to ask them to do so is at best unrealistic.

What to do?

The biggest complaint of those already here (whose ancestors may have arrived under similar circumstances), is that new demands, for schools, firefighters, police, jobs, hospitals or health care etc., are ripping apart the fabric of society. And these complaints are certainly warranted. It's just a fact, the more people there are, the more everyone is affected in some way. We see ourselves and our arrivals in two different camps, those who have to subsidize and those who are getting subsidized.

For some it's just not fair that our laws tend to help support those who need it at the expense of those who don't, especially when the help only makes matters worse for us. For others it's a matter of who is entitled to what. The clever use (or misuse) of welfare laws by people who simply didn't feel like working for a living angered so many people under the Reagan administration, that new laws were passed to make it tougher to bask in the sun of poverty while others supported them.

Aside from frauds and lazy people (who can be found anywhere at any time), there is one sure way of making sure our schools, hospitals, street cleaners, garbage collectors (a special place in my heart), and other institutional requirements are funded equally by all.

In short, if we would abandon the internal revenue system, and do away with the income tax, we could simply tax on whatever you buy. There are gazillions of dollars lost to the general welfare by underground economies every year. But, even laundered money has to buy something eventually, or what good is it?

I'm not an economist, I have never even played one on TV, but the truth is, I know that everyone buys stuff. I buy stuff, you do, criminals do and so do illegal aliens from Mars. Everybody needs to buy stuff. Tax that stuff, use the income for the things we need as a society, and we remove the largest gripe anyone has about who is here, and who is coming next. After all, no one not even the last guy is going to work in a country where you can't afford to live on the work you do. People may even want to move to Mexico or other places, where it would be easier to exploit the system.

That's my word(s) on the subject. adg

Whoa adg! That made a whole lotta sense! But do you have any idea what you have just done?! You have provided fodder for the "Draft the Folkslinger for President Movement" that has taken on a life of it's own on another thread here someplace!
Of course as you must be aware, making sense may disqualify you from holding such an office, as recent precedent may demonstrate.

well we all joke around here... keeps us insane... but we're selectively stupid, Carson...and often choose it.... to propagate the silliness necessary for life...
.....so perhaps i don't get how tough it is in California with your all of your new neighbors....but here's a story for you to consider or not.... half mile away from here (cambridge, mass) there's Union Square in Somerville where they did a study a couple of years ago.... there found 73 different dialects being spoken....from 40 some different languages.... so apparently some folks like the east....

...so my take is... this is cool...i don' thave so much money to travel with so i talk to all these folks from different countries... find out what their lives were like why did they come here?....what do they love about the cultures....they love to talk about what's close to their hearts....and i learn a whole lot.... it's my own way to travel....

....don't expect i'll change your mind and never will say it's easy...i would hate to see the Statue of Liberty on ebay...

When I first started working we had people coming here from all over the world. It was fun. They learned some from us and us some from them. Many returned home to share what they had learned with others. That gave new people a chance. It's not the same being displaced by people here illegally or by an employer that has claimed he can't find workers while all along he is just searching for someone willing to work cheaper and not complain about work violations.

As for the Statue of Liberty I wouldn't want to see it gone either. When we were kids in school we collected pennies to be melted down or exchange for copper to do repairs (They said melted down but that doesn't sound reasonable today).

I think the poem at the bottom of it should have been removed back in the sixties.

Back in the 60’s the Federal Government came into the public schools and brainwashed us as little children with the message that the children we were about to have were unwanted because the population was rising so fast. They launched a program called, “Zero Population Growth”. They pushed Family Planning and birth control pills. I think you and I now both know that you only have to trick people for their few child bearing years and there is no going back.

Many of us never had a say in the future of our unborn.

I am the result of two living cells. One from each of my parents. They are the result of two living cells, one from each of their parents. I wasn't just born. I am a continuation of life. I am a living thing that reaches back into time perhaps 400 million years and the result of billions of joining of pairs of cells. It is possible that if you were to follow my cells back to my parent’s cells and beyond that my family tree touches every living thing here on earth. That is if we limit ourselves to believing life was created here on earth. If it rained down from the immensity of the universe it could reach back into that immensity of time and space, and who knows what relationships and who knows what species.

At least until I came up against the Federal Government and their plan to control the population.

I have seen the Federal Government do little else to control the population.

The open border, United States laws only apply to some, is a serious slap in the face. No, not a slap in the face, it reaches well beyond that. Maybe back to the beginning of time and stretch to the bounds of the universe.

P.S. This is how it is with our new neighbors. It's not a nice video but it gives a good idea what 4th of July was for some about ten years ago. We have been inundated since then. With the recent talk of amnesty the borders are being overrun at a rate unprecedented in all of our history. It doesn't get reported on the news.

Anyway the video is upsetting to watch. It's in the upper left hand corner where it says, "Explosive Video".

They tried!

Just like they did when other tribes tried moving into their area.

Just like many of them are trying to stop the Reconquesta now.

Sometime you win sometimes you lose. Having your own government supporting your annihilation doesn't set well with many of us.

Except them, dry them off, and then give them a ride home to their loved ones.

If you have a life boat, like a country that can support so many people, do you let a criminal at the helm allow all the criminals in business to overload the vessel with their illegal labor and drown everyone?

P.S. I sort of remember Congressman Steve King of Iowa having a tax plan something like your's or something equally fair and simple.

Oh Yah. This has nothing to do with anything we've talked about but it's a pretty funny website if you all haven't heard of it. While I was at work I wished I had of added it to my post.

http://www.fark.com/

It's a website of weird or interesting news articles. The readers find them and submit them with a funny headline. On the left is a link to the original story. To the right is a number that links you to the comments. The Photoshop contest can be pretty good at times. The comments are like comments you will only find on fark.

I'm all in favor of eliminating the infernal revenue service. 8)

..... How much money does it cost to OPERATE the service, outright?

On top of the taxes collected,..... just how much money would we SAVE by not having to pay the government to look at all of those returns, and shuffle our money around?

I hope Arlo and all, have no reservations about my Shameless Plug for my other friends and in low places.

"Except them, dry them off, and then give them a ride home to their loved ones."

Works for me, except this was an illustration, not an actual event. We do this with folks who are caught in the real events. Problem is, it doesn't stop the flood of folks trying to get here, and doesn't help much for the folks who want to stop 'em.

Only sure fire way of stopping refugees, is to stop the root cause of people moving around. It's not as if people are born wanting to go somewhere else. Most people would rather stay where they are, except that conditions are so damn bad in some places, well, naturally people leave.

The more we help our fellow human beings around the world to live peacefully, and with some hope for prosperity, the less of 'em will feel as though they have to pick up and leave.

The idea of spending our hard earned dollars on 25 million people who are already here illegally, for hospitals, schools, welfare etc., is NOTHING compared to what it would cost us to ferret them all out, and figure out how to get 'em all back to where they started! Never mind, what that kind of police state we would have to create to do it, and what kind of liberty, and justice for all we'd have to strip away from ourselves in the process. After all, we already lost a great deal of our own civil liberties in our reaction to 9 idiots, all of whom we here legally when they created the 9/11 disaster. Do the math! Do the algebra, do something that actually helps... Abolish the Internal Revenuers and establish a fair way for everyone who's here to pay their fair share!

And while we're at it, we oughta get rid of the insurance companies meddling in our health care! Get rid of privatizing prisons and school lunch programs (the list goes on for a while). We could do ourselves a big favor by getting rid of a whole lot of stuff, without trying to get rid of We The People.

adg

PS. Paid for by the Arlo for President advisory committee and moose crossing society.

I'm Arlo Guthrie, and I approved this message, except for the part about moose crossing.

Hey, doesn't everyone know that insurence companies have a licsence to steal? With those 2 towers in Boston, they could run New England with out a sales tax. The profits from TV commercials could also pay to fix healthcare and Social Security.
