Holy Cannoli!!

I'm writing this from deep within the caverns of my mind, hiding out until I see the rays of the 14th come peering through the woods...

what else can one do when Friday the 13th comes out on a WEDNESDAY????

I got my pencil by my side, so I can challenge any cross words that might come my way...

I am trying really, really hard to think of Friday the 13th as just another day. I am closing on the sale of my current house and pruchase of a townhouse on Friday the 13th of July! Tho I am not usually too supersticious, I am definately keeping my fingers crossed, my lucky rabbit's foot in my pocket, throwing salt over my shoulder, avoiding black cats and ladders, knocking on wood..um can anyone think of anything else I should be doing? Ya know, just to be on the safe side

Sorry that I forgot to remind you about this backhalf, but I'm sure your bunker is well supplied with the staples, like Chonklit everything, knishes and Nathens famous franks and the like.

I closed on this place years ago on Friday the 13th, and so far, everything's been OK. No snakes or anything.

I guess any 13th of the month can be Friday the 13th if you are hold up in the caverns of your mind. Come to think of it, in the caverns of my mind anything can be everything, or nothing. Is that not a Zen something...nothing is everything...

Historical perspective...Friday the 13th is the day in history when the Knights Templar (crusading searchers of the holy grail) were ordered slaughtered by someone...I think the pope. The effort was so successful (or the propoganda thereof) it became a universal day of superstitious dread. Ask the Rastafarians,.... that's why they wear "dreadlocks", ....to fend off the evil mojo.

Backhalf, et al, in case I forget, which I'm prone to do, I wish to inform you that friday the 13th actually falls on a friday next month. Please take the proper precautions and preparations.

Larnie and all, can the 13th last for weeks? Here's some of what we went through since around the end of May:

1. My truck broke down, $750 to repair.

2. Mrs. mikey (Sandy) got kicked and dragged by one of our horses. Nothing broken, except her spirit (Sandy's, not the horse's), and she's fine now after missing some work.

3. Sandy hit a fallen tree limb in the road near home with her new Mazda 3, putting $5,000 of damage on it. She'll be in a rental for about a month; this will probably cost us around $650 or so to meet the deductible, etc.

4. I just about had one of our horses sold, and the guy backed out at the last minute so it's back to square one.

So, we're glad the 13th is finally behind us, and we're going to be VERY, VERY careful on 7/13.

Mikey, it may not be the 13th effect. you guys in Florida have to deal with what scientists call "the double Bush effect". I mean you got one as president and one as governor. It's kinda like sunspots, only worse.

There are thirteen stripes on the USA flag and there were originally 13 stars denoting the original 13 colonies/states (that's us up here in New England).

And (from a page in a 1934 "Ripley's Believe It of Not!" book that I have) the Great Seal of the United States is full of the number thirteen: 13 stars, 13 stripes, 13 arrows in the eagle's talon, 13 clouds surrounding the stars, 13 letters in the motto (E Pluribus Unum), 13 laurel leaves, 13 berries on the laurel branch, 13 feathers in the right wing, 13 feathers in the left wing, 13 feathers in the tail. And if you include "The Coat of Arms of the United States of America" (13 x 3 letters) the number thirteen is repeated thirteen times with all of the above mentioned. (Uh, oh! What's Leo gonna do with this?) Oh, and I just notice that the Ripley's book publishing year can be picked apart to produce two thirteens: 1934 .... take the 9 & 4 out of the date (which add up to 13) and you're left with a 1 and a 3 (13). Cue the music ... "do, do, do, do.....do, do, do, do" / cue Rod Serling! There ya go Leo! Number 9 plus four!

And "13" used to be a pseudonym for marijuana.

Larry, we're no longer "double-Bushed" down here. We got rid of the brother last winter, and our new Governor is Charlie Crist, also a Republican, but not a "Bushie."
