don't know if this semi-local story became national.... alot of 'illegal' immigrants were 'rescued' from a severe sweatshop...
course now they will be deported.... from the frying pan to....

however, the sweat shop is still open and functioning....and why?....read who's work they are doing...

In a related story from last year, KBR (Kellogg, Brown & Root), Inc., a subsidiary of Halliburton, has been awarded a $385 million government (no bid, I believe) contract to build "holding facilities" in the United States. The detainees would supposedly include both illegal immigrants and prisoners of Bush's war on terror.

A report from the ACLU describes how immigrant children are being held in a TX prison, They're calling it a "“Family Residential Facility.” But the young children are being held as prisoners, in prison garb, confined to cells for 11- 12 hours/day- without food or toys- and denied all privacy including using the toilet. They are being denied education and guards 'discipline' the children by threatening to permanently separate them from their parents. Some children were not allowed to go outside at all for the month of December 2006.

The causes of illegal immigration are many and not easily solved. But regardless of how you may feel about the adults, how can we- citizens of the United States- condone and allow such treatment of innocent children?!

I think I went beyond outraged several years ago. Now this feels as if I'm living in a nightmare- not the country I grew up in and love for its ideals.

...the latest i've heard on the New Bedford sweatshop....many of the 'rescued" illegal immigrants had been moved, within 24 hours, to Texas...why???....they are now detained....the head of Family Services...at the request of our new progressive governor (watch out for Mitt, he's trouble)...flew down to Texas to try to determine where these children are and who they are....he stated he's expecting that more than 100 children were left behind in MA....so what is the choice for them??...


meanwhile, the owners of the sweatshop continue to run it....out on bail....to make packs for the US ARMY on a 2 million dollar government contract....despite the pressure to close down the factory....

wow...

you just gotta hope one of these horrors some day will become the
event that bites this administration in it's corrupt, unconscionable butt...

your not the only one Lisa. there's so much that needs to be taken care of in this country, but as you know the blinders get put on and the buck keeps getting pushed 'round and 'round. the things that still keep on going on under the authorities noses is all very sickening.
i hope for anew begining for a new america starts some time soon, now would be very nice
