Everytime I play Alice's Resturant I always laugh about the first time I saw the movie.
I was sitting on a ACAV (armoured calvery assult vehicle) in a motorpool in Viet Nam. We were on stand down. IE: Getting the tracks and tanks overhauled.
I sat behind a 50 caliber machine gun, I had a 45 straped to my waist, a M16 across my knees, 200 frag grenades and 100 pounds of C-4 under my butt. And a warm beer in my hand. Black Label as I remember.
I always wondered who had the guts to oder that movie to be played on the side of the motorpool building and if the higher-ups had any idea what the movie was about when they allowed it to be shown?

The first time I saw the movie was about as juxtaposed as yours... well, yours is more....

It was playing at a local drive-in around 30 years ago and Lance was taking me to see it... the evening of my best friend's funeral from a drug overdose. While watching the scene at the cemetary after "Shelly's" funeral... I kinda zoned out and slept through the rest of the movie. I had bad feelings about the movie until I finally saw it again 2 years ago... and the bad feelings came back at the same scene, but I watched it all the way through.

I looked for it in the 80s on video and finally found it........around 1990 I had trouble following some of it.........but I was pretty stupid then Oh who and I kidding I STILL have trouble following some of it.........but I LOVE it none the less.........sigh.......especially the dramatization of the song.......the first music video EVER.......

Songs For Aging Children is a very beautiful song and sad too.....The scene with the snow falling was like God was christening Shelly into heaven with angel dust and his friends kissing him with roses falling on top of his grave.......Tigger Outlaw had such a charming singing voice and I am curious to find out what ever happened to her? I noticed that most of the actors and actresses (except for Arlo) in that film had short lived careers...Now I feel a program on VH-1 "Where Are They Now".
I wonder what happened to most of the characters, anybody know?

....Tigger still has a wonderful voice...better than ever i think very bluesy, jazzy....haven't seen her for a year or so ..... she has performed and made a couple of live CD's... with some local Berks musicians... her husband (no longer Geoff Outlaw) also sings and plays.... it is not their day job....they do it for the love of it when they can... and still love the Berkshires....

Thanks kj for the info ...... wouldn't it be awesome if Tigger made an appearance at the church and reunited with Arlo now would that be rad? A one-quarter Alice's Restaurant movie reunion...just a personal thought
