From Arlo's post, it looks like they're looking for new gear....donated by the manufacturers. I'm sure he'll let us know if they need anything donated by the public..

What a wonderful idea and who but arlo could think of something like that. Just the one idea that will revive the heart of the city. Like always I am too far away to join but am looking forward to reading form all of you about it here in the forum.

I'm from New Orleans and i'm home now. I would just like to say thank you and stuff. I'm only 15 years old haha, and music is really the only thing I do.

Can the public purchase tickets for the train ride?

Somewhere in this series of comments someone mentioned sending clothes, etc. on the train to New Orleans for those that lost everything.

A word of caution:

I've been involved in American Indian issues for about 30 years, trying to raise awareness for the social injustice that befalls them. All too often I've let my guard down when someone said they wanted to donate clothes. It's a nightmare. For one, it's a major undertaking to make sure they are clean. Then, they need to be sorted by sex and size before being distributed. Otherwise, they get to their destination and it's too much for the recipients to deal with so they get taken to the dump or set ablaze.

Just a few days ago I saw a report on CNN where people were sending clothes to New Orleans and there is no one organized or equipped to handle the sorting, washing, etc. It was a logistic nightmare and many of the donated items were being thrown away.

I would suggest that if anyone has clothes to give away, try your local women's/men's shelters. They always have a need and can handle small volumes. And please, launder or dry-clean them before hand. Don't give anything away that you wouldn't wear yourself. People who need donated clothes have already had their self-worth destroyed without being given dirty clothes.

For Arlo's trip, my suggestion would be cash - if you don't have the items he wants to take. There's always something you can buy that wasn't donated. Or, maybe there are people who want and could go along to help with the moving of equipment, etc. if there was money available to supplement them being away from home.

Just some thoughts... and not intended to offend anyone.

I'n not sure if this is the right place for this or not. I got sent to new Orleans shortly after the hurricane. When I got there I went into a deserted city filled with water and spent 8 days in an area close to the superdome surrounded by water and empiness. It was a sad seeing that city for the first time like that. I got to mention that to Arlo after his concert in Charlotte Monday. I had been trying to figure out some way to get closure and felt a real need to help the city celebrate coming back. I was thnking of Mardi Gras but the more I think about it, seeing this happen would be infinately better.

Arlo if you need cheap (free) labor somewhere along the way let me know.

I hope I'm posting this in the right topic. If not my apologies. Yesterday we went to VA Beach to go to some stores they have there that we don't have like the Torrid ladies plus size shop & the Deb store with the ladies plus sizes & the Value City store. On the way donw I saw a rig truck with some of the words to CONO on the back of it. It said on it "I'll Be Gone 500 Miles When the Day Is Done" & had a box drawn around it. I bet the trucker was a blunderite or at least liked the song. It made me wonder if it was Nathen. Anyway I'd never seen the words to an Arlo song on a rig truck before. Well Arlo related I guess since Steve Goodman wrote the song...
