The May 19, 2005 issue of Rolling Stone on page 76 has a review of an album by the Joel Rafael Band on Appleseed.
It is described as a "collection of (Woody) Guthrie and Guthrie-ish songs" noting "Don't miss the moving version of Guthrie's "Stepstone" which finds Rafael sharing vocal duties with Jackson Browne and another Guthrie admirer by the name of Arlo."

Today's Boston Herald June 1, 2005 has a column about a new CD coming out on June 15 by Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops.

The CD includes Arlo doing This Land and CoNO.

Maybe it's already been discussed here since the movie has been out a while, but...did anyone catch the reference to Arlo's, um, trouser snake in The Banger Sisters movie when they're reviewing their collection of Polaroids of musician's "best friends"?

I was certainly caught by surprise. Luckily the kids were arguing and missed it.

Having Susan Sarandon and Goldie Hawn pretend (let's hope) to have a picture of you must be sort of a milestone for a guy, I'd think.

Folk music on early TV. (early for me at least)

I watch MacGuyer, Happy Days, Brady Bunch and Dick Van Dyke in the morning before I go to work.

On Happy Days this morning, Joanie and Chachi got a gig on HOOTENANNY, the nationwide folk music show. The gig before them was a alter ego P,P &M with bad hair. Than they went on and sang “Come go with me”(del Vikings) in what I call one of the first UNPLUGGED performances on TV. (Elvis’ 68 Comeback Special was the absolute first in my book)

I don’t think the Bradys ever hit on Folk music, just “Sunshine Day” and “Keep on” I think I remember Greg singing something mellow once.

Description:
For Arlo, the stage is turned into a farmhouse. The Swedish Chef plans a home cooked meal, but the live turkey refuses to be skewered, the pig busts him in the face, and the "beef' stampedes over him. Eventually, the Chef unveils his dinner - vitamin pills.
Memorable moments: To prove that the farmyard is sophisticated too, a herd of cows (of course I've heard of cows!) sings "Elegance." Fozzie performs his rendition of “topping in the Woods on a Snowy Evening," while Gonzo performs a tango number between stanzas. Finally, they compromise, and Fozzie sings his poem to Gonzo's tango tune.

there's a nice collage of older and newer photos of ADG and under the Arlo Bio heading, there's some information about Celine Dion. Completely understandable. I mean, I get the two confused all the time.

The Summer 2005 issue of Sing Out has a cover story about Pete Seeger that includes several comments as well as photos of Arlo. In the article Arlo is quoted as saying that he "traces his radical activism to his first Pete Seeger concert when he was 12 or 13 and then describes how the event led to what he describes as his "first political action."
The same issue has a very positive review of Sarah Lee and Johnny's album "Exploration."

The Boston Herald today Aug. 12, 2005 on page 3 has an article titled, "You can get anything you want" with a photo of Arlo next to it.
The article states that State Rep. William "Smitty" Pignatelli is filing a bill to have a sweet concoction made by Bay State folk singer Arlo Guthrie named the official state syrup. Guthrie who is already recognized for having penned the official (DON'T SAY IT PETE!!!!) state folk song "Massachusetts", manufactures his Battleground Syrup from trees growing in Western Massachusetts according to the article.
