The current issue of Weird N.J. magazine (#20) (What blunderite can't relate to weird?) has an article/interview on the "Wardy Forty" exhibit that was shown in NY and NJ recently. Phillip Buehler, the artist who created the exhibit has taken photos of Greystone Park Insane Asylum as it exists today and combined them with old photos of Woody and family. Most photos show the mostly abandoned hospital as it appears today. The photos of Woody and family are a bit on the small side but I found the text of the interview fascinating.

I happened across an article the other day but put off posting it here, underestimating its impact and effect, until I saw that Nora Guthrie and/or staff felt it deserved being posted it in Woody Guthrie Foundation and Archives, in News and Events.

Singing "This Land" Can Get You Fired

In Maryland, a 62-year old civil rights activist and co-founder of a summer concert series at Quiet Waters Park was let go from his volunteer county job after possibly making remarks about President George W. Bush's ability to read. Max Ochs dismissal came after one woman wrote a letter to Anne Arundel County Parks Department complaining about the remarks as well as a previous concert where he allegedly complained about the show of patriotism after 9-11 and sang THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND with the verse about Private Property.

The unidentified woman said the verse was "full of vitriol against people who own property."

In his defense, Ochs stated he never made any remarks about 9-11 and that he sang Woody's original verses.
