...i sent emails to some of you who's addresses i have, but this is an unusual request for support.... a good friend of mine had a heart transplant about 3 weeks ago....her kidneys have been slow to kick in again...and of course prayers and blundervibes are very welcome....

her husband...these folks are delightful...has asked that her friends and family join in a special hour on Tuesday, April 10th 12 noon -1pm to pee as much as possible...i'm calling it Pee for Ley ... to build some momentum, hopefully....would appreciate any drops you can offer in the privacy of wheverever you are.... and will let you know if it works..
thanks so much...

Glad to help, and it's good for us, too. I'm guessing that for maximum effect, we in Central Time should make that 11 to noon. Here we go! On your mark, get set, ...

I had lots of work to do at my little horse farm yesterday, so I made a couple of donations at the right time in the barn and behind my favorite tree.

The joys of the "simple life".

well, folks...tuesday was the official pee-a-thon day...though there were extensions and modifications due to work and meetings and such...
...by tuesday evening, there was celebration for the 2 liters of fluid that the new dialysis machine was finally able to take off... the renal docs gave her 50-50 on her kidneys reviving...
....early this AM....she peed twice!!...and as we are rejoicing in every small success in this long and challenging journey...
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thanks so much to all of you who participated in whatever way....i have no doubt it was a large part of what worked...
it's when we all get together that the magic really happens...
her husband is wearing his "Life is Good" tshirt today, though he pretty much never takes it off...

gotta go send on some emails...

thanks, again....it's not over for her... so any prayers or blundervibes are still greatly appreciated.....

That's great! I never would have believed that by peeing I would be able to help someone, but, as we all know, life is crazy. I keep thinking of that line of Arlo's in the movie version of Alice's Restaurant, where he's going for his army physical. You know how it goes--something like--"Anybody got some to spare?"

an update on Ley...the day after my last post she was moved out of ICU into the step down unit...she continues to use the bedpan....gradually but steadily...and dialysis continues to remove more of the excess fluid ...she still has a long way to go, but has asked for visits from friends now and the docs have begun to talk about her going home...
...when Ley had her surgery, one of the chambers of her new heart (right vent) did not work...it was a scary weekend and the surgeons eventually had to operate again to put in a pump to assist the new heart...
she built up alot of fluid and then couldn't come off of the dialysis machine...and they didn't want to test the new heart until she was off of it... and this helps you see how important that pee-a-thon was...
...because her new heart is functioning well and the docs are sending her home with the pump only to build her strength for the surgery it will take to remove it....
a small step was alot of miles...
....meanwhile, with her family's love and sense of humor flourishing, they have begun a hat drive, as Ley and her husband agree she fusses way too much with her hair and they don't want to waste any more time with that...<img src="http://www.arlo.net/ubb/smilies/wink.gif" width=15 height=15>..
...thanks so much again...you all did so much, even if it didn't feel that way.. she has alot of recovery left, but oh my what has been done is a miracle...
.i'm going to copy this thread for her and will make sure she gets a copy....maybe she will join us someday....

Actually, kj, it felt like quite a relief at the time. Glad to have helped!
