Hi all. It's actually hard to describe what's been going on here for the past week. First, my mother is in the hospital in ICU, on a respirator. It's not looking good. Some of you met her in Ocean City. She's been in bad shape for a year and a half, but this one was sudden. Last Friday morning she would have died if Rob hadn't been able to revive her and now it's not at all clear if we did her a service by saving her. Of course, there was nothing else we could have done.

Then, my daughter decided to have her baby a little early and did so yesterday. I'd come home from the one hospital and found her looking a little funny. She'd been up to see her grandmother earlier. Her husband works a ways away and she didn't believe she was in labor so I took her to the doctor which resulted in going up to the other hospital - of course it's completely, diamtrically opposite directon from the one my mother's in. There was plenty of time for my son-in-law to get there, but she had the baby last night. He was breech, and she'd had a c-section before so he was delivered that way and has some congestion so he's getting that cleared up and we haven't been able to see him in person yet, but his father has and took pictures and he's lovely and all should be well. He came nine days before his scheduled c-section (her first was a c-section) and that was twelve days before his official due date, so he was about three weeks early and he's 7 lb 7 oz. Don't know how long yet.

Surreal is the best way I can describe yesterday, starting out at work, then getting called to my mother's hospital because things had worsened, then the doctor, then the other hospital and the baby.

It's not going to get any easier in the next few days, what with needing to be in several places at one time, so I thought I'd take this moment to stop in and let everyone know what's going on.

Pat, I've been exactly where you are now... and I can promise you that there IS a light at the end of tunnel. It's hard to believe right now, and it's hard on the mind, body and soul, but I'm sure you'll get through it with a lot of love and patience... and blunderite friends. Remember to take time for yourself! Love to all.

well, sucks about your mom... whisper in her ear about her newest greatgrandchild. Maybe that will be her inspiration to make a choice that best serves her... It's a rough road there, and I'm thinking of her and you and rob!
and then that's just great news about the newest member of the family! Timing is everything, isn't it?
lotsa hugs and thoughts heading east!

Thanks folks. I do appreciate it. Joey's still in neo-natal ICU, but he looks so healthy and good that I can't believe he's not going to be just fine. He had a chest x-ray that was good and they hope to get him off the machinery tomorrow, but no promises there. There is a chance that he'll have to stay a day or so longer than his mother and that's not making her happy at all, but we'll see. We're not even taking it one day at a time. It's more like a half hour at a time.

I expect to go to work tomorrow, if no crises prevent it, and then straight to one or more hospitals, but I'll check in to post his progress as soon as I can. Nothing new with mom. Today was pretty much the same as yesterday there.

Hi all. Just checking in. Not much has changed, though. No progress or changes for my mom. Joey either. He didn't come off the machines. He still looks fine to me, but it's a little hard not to worry. It's a certainty now that his mother will have to come home without him. They won't give any predictions, but those who've been there think that another couple of weeks would be pretty normal for the situation. So, your vibes and good thoughts and prayers and magic spells or anything else you've got are very much appreciated.
