We had our blackeyed peas and cornbread too. Arnie, over the holidays, I ran across your recipe for latkes I'd printed out a while back too. Good stuff ;^) And now Arlo's peddling syrup as well as songs? All this talk of food! So when's the next Guthrie Center cookbook gonna happen? Seems like it's time for a new one!

Yep, I recall the Wagon Shed. Lot's of antiques and good food (Yummy cream of broccoli soup!), if I recollect correctly. I have a very old mandolin (not playable) from there. I also played at a bar in Willington called the Silo, I believe. I was in a group called the Blue Lunch Band. It was the middle of winter and their furnace was busted, but we played anyway in our winter coats! Spilled beer was a freezin' on the concrete slab floor near the door and icicles hangin' off of the microphones from our breath condensatin'! People were orderin' harbor lights and not drinkin' 'em just to get warm! I think we got payed $35 each that night, if we were lucky!

OMG!! You are freaking me out Cap! I remember the Country Silo and before that was Jury's Restaurant. I am so sorry to hear what happened that night of your performance, Eskimo menu special free beer snowcones on the house I should say on the floor LOL!! Also microphone flavored popsicles on the house LOL!!!Your band should have been called the Ice Blue Dinner instead of the Blue Lunch just kidding!
Country Silo closed down around 1980 or 1981 now the place is a factory with some private offices....Sigh! How times have changed.

Guess we're way off topic, here. But what the hey? There were a lot of really great clubs on "the other side of the River" back in the day. The Alpha Omega in Bolton (I think that it's apartments now), the Sundown in Willington (I think that's where it was. My wife told me that somebody even wrote my name in the ladies room there, and it wasn't her!). And, of course, the Shaboo (which I never played at but saw a few great national acts there before it burned down. The Barn in Somers was a pretty cool place, too. All of you non-Connecticut area folks, please excuse my reminiscings.

Back in 1982 an E.O. Smith High School Senior set fire to the club, I was a sophomore at Smith at the time the incident happened. Nowadays I drive by there for ol times sake, currently the lot has been taken over by professional offices.

Anyone remember that great line in Crosby, Stills and Nash's "Suite Judy Blue Eyes"-
"Don't let the past remind us of what we are not now" They also had a great song called "Wasted On The Way" (which is not a drug reference, by the way!) I reckon getting older is not too bad if you can stay healthy and active. The adage "you can't teach an old dog new tricks" is back to front. If you don't keep learning new tricks, you become an old dog! Now as I move into my early 50's, it's way gooder than my early 40's was. Just about everyone I know reckons the same. The excretement seems to hit the whirling blades for a lot of people in their 40's- either health, or work, or relationships go birko.
