Morning Judy.

We never get the Sun for the whole Summer over here, but it's never usuly this windy and rainy either. We'll just have to hope that when India has finished with their Sumer they'll send it this way.

Morning to all who pass by. One of you must have taken pitty on our poor Summer and sent us some Sun, it's found its way out from behind the clouds today.

Baby Arlo is doing fine 3months and one day today. he's asleep in his chair at the moment, but he's normaly a very happy chatty smily baby. Can't complain at all. And as soon as we don't have to spend all our money on nappies for him to wee in, and clothes for him to grow out of, we'll save up and bring him and his brother over to the Church one Spring or Autumn revivel.

Then, of course, when they grow out of diapers & stop growing out of clothes & shoes, they join expensive activities, & their schools are constantly holding magazine sales, pizza sales, candy sales, used car sales, etc. Then it's time to save for college, & then maybe my daughter's wedding.

Which is why I won't make it to the Church until I'm 80, when Arlo's grandchildren will be performing.

Right, Joe. When they're really young, you can save money by buying their clothes at the second-hand shops. Then they get to elementary scool-age and become "aware" and refuse the thrift shop clothes.

But, Joe... there's hope. At 12 they can become paperboys (or papergirls) and start earning money toward their expensive tastes. From there, they can move into fast food jobs and earn even more money! They gain a good work ethic, self-respect and mom/dad doesn't have to pay for everything the kid wants.

Here in Pittsburgh, believe it or not, they did away with paperboys about 5 years ago, amid much controversy.

I'm getting a bit of both worlds right now. My daughter just turned 16, got her life guards license, & has a summer job as a life guard.

My 13-year-old son is the type that when the country is bankrupt, he'll be the last one with any money. He sells his old clothes to 2nd-hand stores, & neighbors pay him to repair their bikes, & even to do cement work, once they saw how he did our sidewalk where he put up his basketball hoop.

On the other hand, my 10-year-old gets braces on Mon. $$$$$$!

BTW, one thing I remember about my 1st go-around at arlonet is that when it comes to discussions of child-raising, Arnie is da man! I would say something about my kids, & he'd tell how he handled the same thing, & he was always right. (And Terrie, you are every bit as wise.)

Another thing about my 1st go-around here---we used to just tell each other good morning, afternoon, or evening. Now it's either morning or it's not morning? And we gotta say "Brrrrr" if we're cold? I'm so confused!!!

Hey joe, if the 13 year old is that handy, save yourself some $$$$$ and have him install the braces on the 10 year old.

Sparky, happy Canada Day! And thanks to you, Pam, and others who are sending cooler-than-usual weather down here! Hope it lasts (sans rain) through WoodyFest, but I'm not holding my breath on that one.

Happy Canada Day to our crazy canuck friends in the great white north!

In honor of Canada Day, George W. Bush took a guy from the Canadian Embassy to lunch today..........he did however beat him up and steal his lunch money.

Happy Canada day ... and the fourth when it gets here (I'm off until TUESDAY!) YAYYY!!!
Hope everyone has a great holiday weekend. I'm taking an unofficial poll--if holiday is on a Sunday, no paid Monday off (but we're taking it off anyway). Is this usual??

Happy Canada Day to the crazy Canadians out there!!!

Pam... I get paid for the holiday, even though it falls on the weekend... and did on every job I ever had....

Don't know whether I'll get a chance to post again before Sunday... so I'll wish all you crazy Americans a Happy Independence Day, too!

I get paid for Mon., too, as does just about everybody I know. It's a federal holiday. There will be no mail on that day, banks will be closed, etc.---in short, all of the indicia of a holiday.

I know just enough about labor law to be dangerous, as the saying goes. Anybody who's not getting paid for Mon. should contact their local Dept. of Labor, who will keep your name in confidence.
