Yep, it's a baseball all-star game. I think players from a bunch of different teams get together & play a special game & I think that's what it is. Mike knows all about it. If I'm wrong in explaining what it is I know Joe will correct me as he's the expert on ballgames along with Mike... <img src="http://www.arlo.net/ubb/smilies/smile.gif" width=15 height=15>

Just 2 more months until Oct. 13!

Meanwhile, the 2004 baseball season is in its last 6-7 weeks. The Pirates & Royals have been holding back, letting the rest of baseball get overconfident, & are now ready to make their moves toward the World Series.

I'll wear a Pirates baseball cap, as will others, but as far as dressing like a real pirate, I won't do that, probably coz I dress like a pirate every day for work. It's part of a weird promotion my company has---I'm in the reception area, dressed as a pirate, chopping up tax returns with a sword, while a recorded voice sez over & over, "Joe Bloggs....Slashing client's tax bills since 1983."

I don't know why...but for some reason I am conjuring up a vision of Joe as John Belushi in his "Samurai" personna chopping up Buck Henry's tax bills......must be something I swallowed! but that is just me...

Louise, to know that the Pirates were originally called the Alleghenies back in 1887, you must be quite the baseball fan/historian! I may finally have met my match! What d'ya think, Levi?

No sorry Joe I'm not a baseball historian, I just like finding out about stuff!! Now I know the entire basic history of The Pirates!
I don't watch sport on T.V. my husband watches a bit of Cricket during summer down here (BORING!!)
I prefer to compete myself. I played in my grade school tennis team, Played American Basketball in my mid-twenties (late 70's) in Brisbane and have competed in horse sports most of my life (Pony club, Western Performance, Dressage,a little Eventing) but don't compete
anymore cos have lots of other things I want to do.
But I have enjoyed some live Basketball games in my time. There's not alot of Baseball played here but I reckon I would enjoy a big American game. I would love the atmosphere. (I intensley dislike football)
But there are baseball things throughout my life.
My Dad is big on Literature and Poetry. When he left the American Army he became a teacher. (He is also one of the leading Historians here in Australia on the War in the Pacific. He was on Macarthurs staff.)
I remember sitting on his knee as a child listening to many a rousing rendition of "Casey at the Bat". He also taught me "Take me out to the Ballgame".
I also have in my possesion a pine chest of draws that my brother had in his room when we were kids in Oregon. There are some Baseball stickers on it. The Braves, The Dodgers,The Orioles and another I'm not sure of. Two players shaking hands across a stream with a little bridge over it, one has an M on his sleeve and the other a S on his chest. Could it be The Minnesota Twins???
And though I love Arthouse and Foreign movies I have lots of Hollywood favourites which include- A League of Their Own, Field of Dreams, Bull Durham, The Natural and I know that when you make the big time you are "GOIN" TO THE SHOW!!
Have you noticed that when I post I practically write a whole Novel!! (I'm still formulating on my next entry in 32 cents but am in election stress fog at the moment)

Yeah, my posts can get long, too, when I get rolling (LOL). Never apologize for it. Everybody brings his(her) own unique self to this. If anybody finds my posts too long, I just say, it's easy, don't read 'em.
