I had no idea that this thread was still here until Levi said something about it on another thread.

Here's some links I've since found ,for Levi & others interested, that show what the Forbes Field Wall & home plate look like today:

This has the better photos.

This has a detailed narrative.

Long overdue in being revived, Joe! Over two and a half years later. Nevertheless, we'll take it. And close rearview mirror sightings of Todd himself! Thanks for the interesting links, really enjoyed them. Four more months is right. Hopefully the dormancy will get ejected from this thread so it can get back on the scoreboard between now and October 13, 2004.

It is long overdue. I'm surprised nobody kept this countdown going in my absence. Don't any of you recognize a great thread when you see one????

The next great baseball event to look forward to, however, is Father's Day, when I have tickets to see the Pirates & Mariners. We're right behind the RF wall, 3rd row, so we can talk to Ichiro like we do Sammy Sosa. We have a week to learn Japanese..

Hey, friends! How many of you are in the same situation as me tonight? Namely--

1. Not going to the Church.
2. Might like to feel somehow connected to the MA area.
3. Nothing to do tonight.
4. Baseball fan.

If so, read on---

Tonight at 7:00 Eastern, ESPN Classic is televising a game between the Hartford Senators & Pittsfield Hillies from Wahconah Park in Pittsfield, MA (Arlo country!).

Wahconah Park is one of the oldest ball parks in the country, built in 1892. One of the quirks of the old park is the fact that it was built with home plate facing the sun, meaning that each game includes a 7-8 minute "sun delay" when the sun gets directly in the batters' eyes.

The teams will be playing in early 20th century uniforms & will be using 19th century rules. They're celebrating the discovery of a document in Pittsfield which proves that baseball was played there in 1791, long before what most folks previosuly believed to be the origin of baseball.

BTW, I highly recommend Jim Bouton's latest book, Foul Ball, about his own efforts to save Wahconah Park. Even if you don't like baseball, you'll be enthralled by the political corruption up in Arlo land.

(Edited for spelling.)

Thanks, Joe. Now I know what my daughter will be watching, unless the Orioles are playing Philly again. Did you see THAT game last night? Incredible.

Didn't see the Phils last night, & my morning paper didn't even have the score, but your post made me check it out on the Phillies' web site. Your daughter must be quite a fan to sit thru 16 innings! I love those kinds of games. I sat thru 18 innings myself last night. The Pirates swept a double-header & in the 1st game they hit a grand slam & an inside-the-park HR, the 1st time they did both in one game in over 30 years. So we had some wild times in the 'Burgh last time as well.

Back in the arly 70s, I was at a Cincinnati/Phils game that lasted 17 innings with no score, and a rain delay of about an hour. I don't remember now who finally won, score 1-0.

Corey is a die-hard Orioles fan and she drags me to Baltimore once a year. She stayed up for the game even tho she's been sick with the flu (flu in summer?) all week.

Thanks for providing that cool link, Wyld!

Did anybody else catch that telecast besides me? If so, how can you say that your new favorite baseball player is anybody but Grit Moran?

How cool it would be to tie in a game or 2 at Waconah Park with an Arlo concert at the Church in the same vacation!
