I'm so glad you're no closer, Arnie. You were on my mind all day and it was good to see your post. I can't imagine what it's like to live near or in NYC these days.

I may be crazy (may be?), but I'm booking a flight to St. Louis today, to see Arlo on the 28th. I understand not wanting to fly, but even with all this going on, I figure I'm taking more risk every morning getting on LBJ freeway or (yuk) George Bush Turnpike. (Those are my choices to get to work! Just another indication of how schizophrenic Dallas is.)

My thoughts and prayers are with all touched by this horrible crash. Hang in there, Shannon, and sing about pickles!

such surreal times now...it's as if this is all a test of our "coping skills", sad for the crash victims, glad Arnie's ok, sad for the victims, glad it wasn't another terrorist attack. Imagine the saddness & loss felt now in the Dominican Republic.
The Taliban have retreated, from Kabul, soon, it will be a slow, grinding guerilla war, fought, in Afghan Mntns, in winter, a new definition, of hell.......

Ceashell, it'll probably be fine. Odds of anything happening on any given flight are stil minute. I just was reacting to yet another thing. That, and my son had just the day before, announced his intention to take a Caribbean Cruise, which would involve flying, too, of course. Timing was bad.

Shannon, welcome. I see on your profile that one of your interests is listed as debating (aka arguing). Cool!

Arnie, how awful for you to be so close. How sad for everyone involved. It's a terrible dilemma to hope it was not another terrorist strike, yet hoping it's not another case of aging aircraft being ill-maintained.
In either case, it's a horrible loss of life and my thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of those who lost their lives.
Ceashel, I'm glad you're still willing to fly--I know those highways (except which one was renamed George Bush Hwy??). I would fly, too, except I don't have any money or anyplace to go.

Glad you're also OK, Arnie... heckuva way to keep in touch with family and friends these days - I hate calling up there and tracking down people to make sure they're OK - relieved when I do find them, though.

Hasn't stopped me from flying, tho - been on three trips since Sep. 1st and have a couple more planned this year. I agree with Ceashel, the streets of dallas are a bigger risk, although some people think that's partially my fault...

pamrametc. - Hwy 191 was renamed G Bush Hwy - it now runs from 35E all the way over to Rowlett just north of Belt Line Rd - a fairly new and wide tollway that's not too bad during non-rush hour times...
