I wouldn't want the Iraq to bomb my home or to tell me who my President could be, so why should I think to do that to them?

I am reading in today's paper that the Senate is being asked to "pre-approve" a pre-emptive strike before they recess to campaign for re-election. There is an editorial by Senator Dayton from Minnesota, who is urging caution and restraint. The by-line is from the Washington Post, maybe you can find it on their site. He says, in part
"If we attacked another country because it might threaten our national security, then how would we dissuade others from doing the same?"

He urges Congress to withhold their decision, but he's afraid of the Congressional mentality which says, "Vote quick, pass the buck, head for home and wish'em luck." How scary!!

I agree that there is a big difference between coming in in order to help solving a conflict and in "playing the big brother" I just wanted to point out that America s role in the world hasn t always been a "bad" one and I m against the invasion of the IRaq,but at the moment I don t know anything WE can do.. the Americans will probably invade the Iraq because most other (european) countries are in favour of it..
I read in an MAerican newspaper today that the German- american relationship isn t at all good at the moment and that our old /new chancellor said all those things just to be reelected...
I don t know.
just hope that there will be a PEACEFUL solution (although t doesn t look like it)

One hundred years from now, the question will be asked, Who opened the door for this war to come? Who done what and why? Who could see the big picture so clearly and yet not see the children dying?
I agree, that as a country, we have a duty to protect ourselves. The President should act on behalf of our people to right the wrongs and to ensure the safty of all the citizens. Having said that, I will return to the first questions and ask, Is this war the best of ideas? Could there be a better way.

Newspaper articles seem to indicate that Congress is going to give Bush the pre-approval for force that he wants. There are a few congressmen who are voicing their concerns--maybe it's time for an email blitz to Washington--anybody want to find the proper addresses? I'll see what I can come up with, maybe a link.

I tried that, got an error message. I think it might be www.congress.gov

I can't say that I have heard too many good ideas coming from Iraq, but this latest idea they put on the table about Saddam and his second dueling with Bush and Cheney to resolve the conflict has some serious merit. I mean we all said stuff like that before, "Let the "leaders" fight it out between themselves. In fact if it were at all enforceable, I think it should be mandated in the job description of "world leader". It may also affect Jesse Ventura's outlook on running for president?

Anyone else fear that we may need to rename the "Dept. of Defense" to the "Dept. of Offense" sometime in the near future? Or is it just me? And when we take to the offensive side of things, which other countries will follow suit, and with what justification, and against whom?

This is just getting scarier and scarier. There is an "election" in Iraq today or tomorrow. Only one candidate on the ballot, but there is a "yes" box and a "no" box. Saddam's goal is 100% Yes. Wonder what will happen?

Sounds a little like an election in Florida to me.

We are doing nothing more then what King George done to the Ameiracas way back in the 1700's when he too had to deal with terrorist far from home and that came out well.

Iraq, has no blunderites, and for that reason, Saddam just might win...Have you ever noticed that blunderites are outspoken, freedom loving, peacenicks, which ask the question, WHY

Elections coming up and as usual, the candidates are doing their TV commercials..
The VERY WEIRD thing here in North Carolina is that the Candidate discussions are all centered around nit-picky stuff...not ONE WORD about war....
Elizabeth Dole and "Erskin-what's- his- name" pop on the TV screen every few minutes, only in response to the last accusation...
"He said that I..."
"I did not say that..."
"Yes you did..." "did not..."
Unbelievable....nothing makes sense.
I sent emails to Ms Dole about this..and got the standard "Thank you for your interest in me" response.
I'd really like to know if any of you have heard any REAL comments from candidates in your areas...for or against a war...
I have brought this subject up onstage and there isn't much reaction....how can that be? Seems like this subject would be an important one and there would be strong reactions one way or another.
The silence of the people is what frightens me.
