I figured it was time to check in on this topic, seeing as blunder secretary Deb is still being held captive in VT.
It was really a great show. I'd only seen one symphony gig before, about a year and a half ago. Loved it, but it's improved since then. Also, I have to say the VSO played better than our own LI Philharmonic did, at least on the particular nights in question. Jamie has written some beautiful music to accompany the songs, too.

The show has more of Arlo's regular show intergrated into it than before and almost all the songs were different from the first one we saw. Some of the ones I recall off-hand are - in no particular order - City of New Orleans, If You Would Just Drop By, When a Soldier Makes It Home, When The Ship Comes In, This Land, Good Night Irene, Last To Leave, Ring Around The Rosy Rag (this was very cool with orchestral sounds) and..others, I'm sure. The orchestra opened with Fanfare for the Common Man and An American in Paris.

It was an indoor/outdoor event, with chairs under cover - we had those, just in case, but lawn seating, too, in a sort of natural amphitheater type area. The weather was perfect and the music was great. Can't ask for more than that.

No tux. He wore the tan jacket that he's been wearing lately and you're probably not going to believe this Cheryl, but I forgot to notice what else he was wearing. I think that there was blue in the shirt..I took pictures. When I get a chance to download them, we'll know.

It was semi-outdoors so the orchestra didn't actually have their jackets on, although they had the rest of the outfit on and John wore a white dinner jacket instead of black. That brought me back. My father was a dance band musician and they always wore tuxes in those days. He would bring the white jacket out for the summer every year.

An American in Paris
( Arlo Joins )
City of New Orleans
If You Would Just Drop By
I Can't Help Falling in Love with You

Last to Leave
St. James Infirmary
( intermission )
When a Soldier Makes it Home
Ring Around a Rosy Rag
When the Ship Comes In

highlight for me - You Are the Song
Arlo sang it lounge-lizard style
without accompanying himself
on piano or guitar or anything
he just sat there on a stool and sang it

from the 5th row it looked like
all black except the tan jacket
orchestra all wore grey below the waist
and white above the waist
couldn't see see what color their waists were
