I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to all for your kind words and support. At this point, the situation with my brother has turned into a mixed blessing. Very mixed. The seizure he had did severe and extensive damage to both his physical and mental faculties; this on top of a rapid decline in his general health over the past year. He has been given a prognosis of a year or less left to live; that news is not totally unexpected, however it makes him eligible for Hospice care. My brother, fortunately, is unable to understand the concept of his mortality anymore. Hospice folks are living and breathing angels. Because of his feeding tube and other stuff plugged into him, he can’t come to our house without a 24/7 nurse. Because of his medical needs, he is not eligible for nursing homes, and I didn’t want to put him in any of those places anyway. Hospice is all about providing comfort and peace. They said they would play him his favorite music (which naturally includes the Folkslinger) around the clock. For me it is a time to count blessings and give thanks. Thanks for Hospice; thanks for my memories of my brother’s amazing life (which he would probably want me to mention is not over with just yet!); thanks for all my Blunderite friends; and thanks for the music. Always the music…………..

I do absolutely know what you mean by hospice workers, and relate to the comparison to a living, breathing angel... Just moments after my dad passed, they had these ceramic molds, and took 10 imprints of his hand, one for each of his children, and one for my mom. The gentleness with which they handled my family, just distroyed into pieces ...standing there watching them put his hand into clay to preserve him for us...I will never forget that moment, or the pure kindness from them.

Thankfully you already have confidence your brother will be in equally loving hands.

I've been thinking about your update here and, as a nurse, I feel for you, your family and for your brother. I know at times that things seem very clinical and such, but hospice is the best place to make his days comfortable. People who go into care like this are so dedicated and used to being creative about helping to make sure he is safe, warm and his soul is fed. They are a special breed. It's good that you already know this. I am sure he'd do the same, were the roles reversed.
Music and friends will help you through this. Take care of yourself, too!

I'm so sorry Kevin. As others have said Hospice is truly a great organization. I am glad to hear he is at home with you and your family now.
