my experience with religion is that it deadens the senses...to what is real? i only wish i'd understood that more clearly and allowed myself to believe that a lot sooner.

sorry if that is too small a description of thought

sometimes my thoughts are shorter than my words should be.

or something like that

of course (and i have said it before) i still wonder about there being more out there and not just us?

I didn't say all Christians I said all people of faith are intolerant! You got to admit that the whole basis of religious faith is to be intolerant of those who don't share that faith. It is kind of part of the code that it is a them or us scenario! Religion, is by definition, intolerant. If it makes you feel better I see a lot of people who wear tye dye and like 60's and 70's stuff who are intolerant! In fact, I am intolerant when it comes to religion! You know matbe it is like that amazing grace song in some way,

I once was tolerant
but now I am found

I dunno, that whole burn in hell thing is pretty hardcore! Besides, the Taliban don't seem to interested in materialism? and besides, that whole lord your god and neighbor stuff just applies within your sect because pretty soon that same god said go practice genocide on your neighbors the Canaanites (he pointed off in that direction over there)![/quote]

I dunno. I just said I studied it a little. Didn't say it was my book or my sect. The burn in hell stuff is the old testament. Jesus just said be good and everything will be cool.

I still think all them gods are just about the same.

Edited twice to say: I really screwed up that quote stuff...

Edited one more time to say: Jesus! Is this still the thread about Dave's letter to Obama?

I remember being with my large extended family on a family reunion in October 1959. I was six years old. We were at the Inn at one of Indiana's state parks...coulda been McCormick's Creek, Turkey Run or Spring Mill. My aunt, a converted Catholic, was getting my cousins ready for Mass. She was carefully explaining how it was a sin for them not to attend church, and I had issues with that. I questioned her...told her that I'd been taught that God was everywhere (she agreed), and since he was everywhere, why couldn't they take a nice walk in the beautiful fall-colored woods and visit God there, instead of getting up, skipping breakfast and going to sit in a stuffy church? I wasn't satisfied with the reasoning behind it, and she was getting kind of pissy at my questions and challenges to the logic presented. I just remember that she really couldn't answer the "why?" question convincingly. It was all pretty much "that's the way it is, and we accept it" kind of answers.

That was the start of my problems with organized religions...at some point, I decided that they weren't for me.

we do tend to wander a bit don't we? some of my favorite stuff seems to come out of when we do that.
and when i say i wonder about something else being out there and not just us...i don't really have a clear idea what that means?
i like looking at different ideas and wonder what thoughts will arise

I suppose many of us would agree that organized religion professes to help cure the ills of the world ,while all the time adding to them. Not in every case and in all things, but looking around the globe and through history it's plain to see that things like the crusades, the inquistion, the taliban, the isreal-palastine situation, etc, etc, etc. may have been different without the influence of organized religion.

Larry! You're like a superhero (or supervillian?) with this power! Remember, like Peter (Spiderman) Parker's uncle Ben said, "With great power comes great responsibility!"

Ok, I've decided to use this power to become a supervillian, since I can't think of too many beneficial uses for my power, other than to help line the pockets of the people that make and sell "depends". So logically, superHERO is out!

I shall be known as(with an Austrian accent) "The Urineator". I am seeking an evil sidekick to be known as "Bladderboy". Please send your resume to " TheDependsConsortium.Com" atten: Miss Tinkle

Is this Depends thing a rival to the Evil League of Evil (http://www.evilleagueofevil.com/) or a subsidiary?

I can't wait to see the Urinemobile...

Try to get a guy named Yuri. What are the supervillian outfits going to look like? Is Miss Tinkle's first name Areathra or Eureathra? I'll bet you're flush with excitement!

Well, we've come full circle. The thread was started by "The Wiz" and has wound up being about wizz! Another topic gets tanked! (Louise, I hope you haven't recently had a lot of tea to drink!)

It's a perfect example of the spontaneous conversational evolutionary process......or, in this case, perhaps devolutionary?

That's why celery is my time of choice......the time is always NOW!, so you're never really late for anything......I mean, how could you be? You'd always be late and early, always almost late and almost early. Celery time is the time of the future and the past and the NOW! all at the same, uh,......time! :?

The e-mail Dave posted, I just got it from my cousin in NC. Apparently the Wiz's e-mail is getting around. (My cousin btw, doesn't like Arlo lol. He's not a folkie.)
