As another Big D person (inherited - my Dad's family is lousy with it), it really takes effort and patience to get that balanced. I went for years soaring in and out of depression (good for the blues gigs; bad for everything else) until I was diagnosed. Insulin was the key to getting it back together. Insulin shots are not painful. Blood sampling is no fun. The cancer on top of it with loss of immune system and this flu scare have turned me into a house hermit going from job to home and nowhere else. Thank the big kahuna for having the web and this forum plus the home production toys so I can stay focused on projects.

The projects and having some folks to chat with are big helps controlling the depression. I'm not taking meds other than the self-prescribed variety. Having discovered just how easy it is to become dependent on lorcets, etc., I don't think I can handle that, so it's the blues and 3D videos this summer.

Stay with us here, Cheryl. What you are going through is understood. If you play an instrument or have another obsessive hobby that doesn't involve eating (most do), those are good. I'll be ok but I'm not too sure about my dog. :-)

Your loss won't stop hurting soon. It is like a tight rubber band that will jerk you back just as you think you are better. Some people don't want to be inconvenienced with the grief of others. Ignore them. The rubber band weakens over time and while the hurt never goes completely away, the good memories will overcome it and then one day you'll have something happen, you'll want to run tell someone, and when you think of Mike, it will be a happy memory and you can tell him right there and then.

Those who go before us don't go far. They are just a thought away and you can talk to them anytime. In the beginning it is hard because the pain masks that thought. Later as the pain subsides, it becomes a source of comfort and stability.

Hang on. It really does get better.

cheers,
len

always wishing you gentle healing, Lori... you are a brave woman to face your demons and do battle... it's a hard journey and you walk it on your own... with lots of us cheering you on and hugging you....

Cheryl...you have so much to deal with.... how could you possibly stop talking about missing Mike so soon??.... in my experience, it doesn't ever really go away, you just get used to it... and learn to live with your deep loss in a different way that allows room for new joy.... I know that will happen for you... in it's own time and way.... meanwhile, grieve as you need to... you have alot of support here.....

Yeah Lori: That's too bad. Meds can suck. First they put you on one, then by the end of a yr. you can fill a shoe box....

I get down I listen to Dylan's "Pill Box Hat". Or pop a Xanax bar, and go on with my day.

Wishing you well kid!

Kind Regards/Rb

Sometimes you need to stand still and let things come round to you.
Know that good things are coming.

Best wishes Lorie.

Stay strong, do what you have to do, know your not alone and above all...keep hold of your sparkle. It's still in there, Hon.

Life has taken on a few major changes for me as well. All we can do is be strong, think positive (even when it's easier said than done) and move forward.

As Cheryl's cousin put it...

"It's what we aim to do..."

Hang in there!

Thanks to everyone else for your thoughts. I do not know when I will be back on here posting, hopefully when things get squared away or in other words when the right meds will help me heal this emotional stage along with being bipolar. It is not easy, it's sad and incurable I have to live with taking meds for the rest of my life in which I am not to proud of.
Take care
Peace,
Lorie

What's to be proud or not, or ashamed or not, of taking maintenance meds? A chemical imbalance seems to be the price many of us pay for all that evolutin' added to a poisoned environment. I think you have a lot of company around here on taking maintenance meds. If your body chemistry is out of whack, there's nothing wrong with tweaking it, whether it's taking daily vitamins or a prescription or seaweed extract or yogurt for more calcium. What works for you is what's important. And that's the important point--not whether or not you need something, but that you stay on top of it and don't just blindly do what "they" tell you to do. Do your homework and insist on what makes you better. That's something to be proud of.

Lorie, there's lots of us taking daily meds for the rest of our lives...I take meds that keep me feeling good, keep me in control of health problems, and in return, keep me feeling happy. It's hard to feel happy when one feels like warmed-over crap. So, I take the meds that keep me in balance. I feel good, my husband and family are happier, because I'm not making them miserable and my health problems aren't limiting what we can go out and do. It's worth taking whatever it is your body needs to keep you feeling better; millions of us do that every day, and it's just a normal part of our lives.
