With appropriate humility,

I'm missing what arlo.net has been for me. On this one thread, couild we just talk, meaning ... no long copies of Web pages that could be communicated via a link, and no utube.com links? Those have their place, but they seem to have taken over the place, and I come by here to make contact with other Blunderites and exchange thoughts.

Please take no offence; carry on as you were on other threads. This one may die a quick and deserved death, but I just want to talk, so if I'm alone, so be it.

Hugs,

Shelley

I've been laid up all week Shel so have had time to let all kinds of thoughts drift thru my head............

Here's some we may not all agree on but hey that's why lots of us love coming here, to listen to everyones angle on stuff and learn.

I'm worried about the election.............I hope I'm wrong but I'm gettin' that McSame feeling.

You all know I was hoping Hils would get the first swing of the bat at this point in history with Sen. Obama to follow.

Of course I'm a dyed in the wool Dem so will back the party no matter what and I DO like him just feel it's not quite his time.

As you know I get my info online and from Lehrer or our thinking persons TV stations stories. I don't have cable or satellite TV so I'm relying on you all to keep me up on extra stuff that I might miss.

So how do you think it's really panning out this close to the election?
You know...all the stuff about elite liberal whites (men) and black people etc.

How he won't get the industrial working class masses and that S**T about women who wanted Hils saying they'd rather vote for Mc Same.

So please all give me the poop on what you all think is REALLY going down, please, thank you. From your own thoughts.

What do you HAVE to do before you get up in the morning????????????
In our house it's a cup of tea in bed for half an hour with the cat cuddled up between us, just talking about stuff. (the cat doesn't talk he just purrs and does that kneading thing.)

OH you might find this strange but the FIRST thing I do when I wake up is count the number of hours I've been asleep cos if it's not a least eight my being is not happy. Does anyone else do this!!!

I don't think much about my age, but sometimes when I look at the math I start thinking about how much time I have left.
Then about how long I'll be gone
Even tho my family are not religious my folks sent us kids to Sunday school so we could make up our own minds. I remember sitting on my Dad's knee and asking him what happens when we die and he said that one of the beliefs comes from the Christian religions, and it is that you go to a place called Heaven with God and the Angels and you stay there for ETERNITY! Well I still remember going to bed that night and trying to fathom that! It was a bit scary! And even now it can be scary thinking about the Big Sleep eh? So much to do so little time.

How much trouble would you think it would be for you to come to OZ and drive on the other side of the road?

My favourite Arlo album is Son of the Wind. It reminds me of my Dad.

Thanks Shelley. My life is in turmoil right now with things that are out of my control. I wrote a short story once where the conclusion was a wish for injectable humility. Thanks to you louise, cause I probably wouldn't have posted anything if you hadn't jumped in.

Without knowing lots of details we can still send lots of Blundervibes to our Moosefriends. :)

OK so the things don't end good for the Chooks in this story but I hope it might give you a smile.
If I've told you this before sorry but some might not of heard it.

This is one of many classic tales in my family as told to us by my Dad passed down from his Dad.

Back in the 19th Century my Dad's mother's parents (who had both been children on the Oregon Trail) had a ranch in Montana (they had moved there from Ore)where they grew Alfalfa and bred Horses.
My Dad's parents were married and lived there for awhile before moving back to Silverton Ore where he and his Sis were born.

Well, unlike me, my Grandma was not a ranchin' type gal! (which is very unfortunate because right now, if she had been, I may have been out riding the range checking on my horses and Alfalfa) I always remember her very well dressed even tho she and her second husband didn't have alot of money. And always wore red lipstick and fingernails! Don't get me wrong! She was tough enough. Dad and her got thru the depression all alone and when she married my step Grampa she didn't tell her employers 'cos she knew they would fire her!

Anyway, back at the ranch! One day the others went to town for supplies and she was alone. She thought she'd try to help out and got together some ingredients. Now back in those days way out there you didn't WASTE ingredients. So she tried to be careful and even tho she didn't really know what she was doing she thought she would help out and make some bread thinking this would surprise the rest of the family on their return.

So she got all the fixin's and did the prep. Then she set the dough to rise. Well she waited and waited but the dough wouldn't rise. After more time she begain to panic about the waste and the trouble she may be in.

So she decided she better dispose of the evidence. So then she had a lightbulb moment DING! what better way to get rid of it without really wasting it! I'll feed it to the CHICKENS!!

Well she did and it was summer so I guess you know what happened! She ended up in even bigger trouble cos she not only wasted all that flour but killed all the CHOOKS

I think we need a Classic Family Stories Page, maybe I'll start one I think it would be fun. WE all have 'em don't we!

I do--and when I wake up in the middle of the night, I count the number of hours I've slept and how many more I get to sleep; it makes me happy unless I'm down to two or less to go (like now), then I wish I had more. Back to bed zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Geez Louise!
(Ha! Never thought I'd get to say that to someone actually named Louise!)

Is there any caffeine in that Xoteria your taking??

I want you to know I adore your stories!!

Ceashel, I understand what you mean. I was a perpetuator!

I found it pretty neat when you posted the Silverton train pix, which made me search out that song about the Silverton, I haven't heard since before my Dad passed. (yes..I cried as I listened) Really Ceashel, you have no idea what posting those pictures did for me.
Then, Louise talking about her family's roots in Silverton Ore.

Who needs gold? 8)

Not being an old-timer with Arlo.net (I'm old but not have only been here less than a year), I don't know about the early threads.

I retired from working in a H.S. counseling office 6 years ago and just this past Monday I started working as a volunteer in our local Obama office from 9-5. It was a shock to the system and I crashed the first 2 nights upon arrival back at home. But, I can't tell you how good this is for the soul. The people who are coming into the office are so supportive and want to help with the campaign. The two young people who are a part of the Obama campaign assigned to this area are amazing.

As I was leaving the office last night a woman stopped me and asked me if I was working in the Obama office. I told her yes and she thanked me and introduced herself to me. I think this is going to be a good 3 month experience.

This county in Virginia has not had an office for a democratic political candidate in 44 years so this is a big thing for the area. We are outnumbered by at least 4 to 1 here.

Oh, and to really make the rednecks sizzle, the office is in the boyhood home of a confederate general or some such.

So what did you all think of the speeches, it's all way over the top for most Aussie's. To much hoopla and God blessing for this mostly secular crowd!

Most Aussies don't understand the U.S. system and the Conventions and Delegates, Electoral College etc etc. and how long it all takes!

Down here the party picks their leader who then runs for P.M. when the Federal election comes around every three years we just go to the polling booth one day and vote for the Party we want.

As some of you know my fave OZ party won here LAST Nov. :D and I'm looking forward to soon receiving my absentee ballot from Oregon and hoping my fave U.S. party wins THIS Nov.

I'm uneasy tho.
