I'm glad my suggestions seem to have the delegate lead at this point. I've never actually named a chicken before, unless it was part of a recipe, unless of course calling george w. bush or dick cheney an asshole counts.

When I was a child of 10,or so, I discovered a small sapling with the most beautiful leaves. They were so different from those all around me, Oak and Maple mainly. The tree was planted in the corner of a backyard garden, right next to a beautiful, white wooden fence, such that from the road, it could be admired, and more importantly, from the sidewalk could be closely observed. Over time, the tree with the gentle leaves grew, its branches came up and over the fence,and one day, from the obscurity it provided, I gently plucked a leaf. I ran home to look up its origins in the World Book Encyclopedia! I was fascinated to discover the Ginkgo tree, and it's ancient Chinese heritage. I'm with PSB on Ginkgo!

I like Ginseng for a name, too, also a Chinese herb! Maybe you'll get twins ..?

i've been mostly skimming this thread, so I really don't know what all the discussion is about.... but that's never stopped me from interjection before!
So i'm tossing Rocky and Bullwinkle out there as the best choices.
Those names say it all, don't they?


as backup, I'd normally recommend Calvin and Hobbes but in this case I can't recommend that, since those are the names of my birds, and so we don't want any confusion here amongst us, right???

Sorry I didn't get back to you on the BlunderChooks!!!

I let Dandilion choose the names and being a true BlunderChook she agreed with the majority and went for Gingko and Hemp.

She was a bit pissed off when they first arrived as she had been an only Chook for awhile. Dandilion is a Lowman Brown (a mix of white leghorn and Rhode Island Red)

The new Chooks are a White Leghorn and a black Chook which is a cross between a Rhode Island Red and a Black Australorp (an Aussie Breed)

The feed store had sold out of Loman Browns but still had a few of the black ones. The White Leghorn looked so lonely in her cage as she was the only one left. So I felt sorry for her and took her. Then the feedstore gal and I open the other cage to pick out a Black one and as we went for the one we wanted another one flew out of the door and sat near the cat carrier I had brought to take them home. She seemed to say PICK ME!!! So I did!

Well by the time I got home the White (now Gingko) and the Black (now Hemp) were the best of friends! It reminded me of that song Ebony and Ivory (hey they would have been great names for them eh! but we can't break the horticultural alphabtical naming thing)

Well Dandilion was NOT HAPPY! I usually let her out of the Chookdome when I get home from work so she can peck around over the acres and she follows me up to the barn to feed the horse (she likes horse pellets). So I couldn't let her out because the new chooks had to stay in the dome. First she pecked Gingko a few times and Gingko had a bit of a go at her ( you know that thing they do when they flap their wings, jump up and lash out with their claws!) Then Dandilion did the same to Hemp with the same reaction!

Dandilion is definately the boss, but by roosting time after a few squabbles Gingko was snuggled up to Dandilion (who was looking a bit miffed but let her stay there) with Hemp not too far away on the other side!

So three BlunderChooks of different color and breed are living together in perfect harmony. They could teach us humans a few things.

Sorry I missed the vote - but it took me three pages to know we were talking about Chickens! Louise you are always a wonderful source of amazement to me. I thought of Captain Hook - But I like what you chose - or whoever chose. Who chose? the chickens?

Since the naming has been done, I thought I would ask.... Why chooks?

As a kid, we raised arucana chickens. Egg gathering was awesome because it was like Easter. You never knew what color eggs you were going to get. Blue, pink, green and of course the normal colors browns and whites.
The rooster's name was Rusty. Man..the spurs on that guy

It's Aussie for 'chickens'--these are Oz birds; Wheezer stands on her head. And afternoon is 'arvo.' That one took me awhile to figure out. You gotta love this place! Despite the eye-rolling we get from concerned family and friends who think we've joined some crazy cult (we have), it's an educational adventure.
