Just because Indians were called heathens, doesn't mean they fit my definition of heathen. They lived the closest to having all things in common than maybe anyone else ever did. When it is said that the first saints had all things in common in Acts, I believe that is closer to Socialism than capitalism.

I agree. That the European settlers used it as a derogotory term was the point that I was making. They came here to escape prejudice but didn't have a problem directing it towards others.

As someone who just learned how to use the quote box, here goes. In the upper right hand corner of each post, there is an icon that says quote. It's above the line in the same strip where the date is. Click on that and then hit the post reply button. The quote will appear in the text box for your post.

The best way for me to learn something is to teach someone else. Thank you.

I read an article that stated the likelyhood that the hysteria in and around Salem was caused by a mold in the rye that was stored for the winter. The mold caused them to act crazy. I just thought that was an interesting

The English exploited the Chinese, Africans and people of other places where they established colonies. The new Americans exploited the native Americans, Black people have been exploited and mistreated for over 200
years. The whole world has been conquered by one civilization or another throughout history. I don't understand how all that history can be dumped on the heads of the Christians living in the USA today????

As we continue down the "way off track", has it ever occurred to any devout believers of anything that maybe, just maybe, those holy books aren't literally things that happened but little morality stories to teach lessons? Maybe the above mentioned was a way to say doing good out weighs obeying a law. And maybe these people in those books did humanly impossible feats to impress the reader/listener and keep their attention. Remember, there was no George Lucas or CGI back then. Why do you think that comic books catch a kid's attention. Or westerns back in the 50s? Or Indiana Jones movies? Star Trek? Heroic people overcoming seemingly impossible odds, performing impossible deeds. And they are all stories. Some for pure entertainment. Some to teach lessons. Some both to hold your interest. Homer's Iliad & The Odyssey, Aesop's Fables. None to be taken literally. Maybe that's why none of that stuff happens in real life today. Because it possibly (probably) never did at all.
