okay, not quite legends of FOLK, but Legends in their own right... they've announce their latest world tour, combining stadiums, arenas and concert halls... and I had this funny (to me anyway) thought about Arlo opening the show for them in Giant Stadium... and consider the segue from "This Land..." to "Sympathy for the Devil"

Arnie, my friend, I like your idea, but I'd add a twist to it. If the world made sense, it'd be the Stones opening for Arlo.

I imagine tickets to see the Stones will be mighty expensive, but at this point, I wouldn't pay a nickel to watch those washed-up, boring old farts. I watched their HBO concert a couple years ago. Unfortunately, they're still into those elaborate, impersonal stage shows that are sooooo 1970's. I don't need a giant video screen to serve as a reminder that I have a lousy seat. I thought the concert got a little better, however, when they moved to a smaller, intimate stage & left the dancing girls & the horn section & all the other excesses behind.

Arlo has matured with his audience---for example, he was talking about child-raising in his shows at about the same time my wife & I started having kids---but the Stones are still acting like they're 25. They look so stupid prancing around the stage in tight pants still singing about getting laid. Hell, by now they're probably all on Viagra. They shoulda quit years ago---a good time woulda been about 1977, after Some Girls.

I think the Stones made it into the 90's allright Joe, but not the new millenium... ( barring aside Kieth Richards ) I love Kieth on Willies Band of Outlaws CD... ( We had it all )


It is sad to see Jagger winded after a jont accross the stage. Nice to see Charley still the family man. Quiet and subduded. Ronnie's a trip. Love him in Faces. He was great with Rod.

I would assume that retirement is outta the question, as after a lifestyle of said, and to have it dry up, like an old fart, would be redundant...

I guess you have to respect the fact, that a face lift or two, with the added botox injections, ntm the lil blue pills that keep them all horney... Well they are going down swinging that's for sure..... I remember seeing them in Syracuse Ny when I was 12 going on 17... Nose bleed seats in the old War Memorial stadium???? they didn't have telepromters then. But it was the rush of the era.....


Keith makes ten of Mick tho... I have respect for the stones, but as you say Joe, I miss not only Brian Jones, but all the musisions that played on such classics as ' sticky fingers' and Exile on Main st.....

ntm the stones have more greatest hits albums of any band in history. Unless your counting the Canadian Band 'Guess who"

Speaking as a female of the species.. watching Mick is as sexy as watchin' paint dry (or concrete set). I've been to lots of concerts , Beatles,Dylan etc. etc. but never had the urge to see The Stones live, though I do like some of their music.

Rb, as Casey Stengel told the Antitrust Committee in 1958, you have certainly got some good points in, sir!

I liked the albums you mentioned & wonder about Ron Wood, too. Seems to me his role with Rod Stewart was more prominent as a lead guitarist & chief song-writer. Why he gave that up to play 2nd banana to Keith is beyond me.

Have you heard the long-lost Papa John Phillips album, Pay Pack and Follow? Mick & Keith produce & play on it, & it sounds much more like a classic early-70's Stones album than one by the Mamas & the Papas.

I often wondered what it woulda been like had Roy Buchanan not turned down the Stones. The band woulda certainly gone back to its blues roots. Mick & Keith don't like taking a back seat to anybody, but had they had the greatest guitarist in music history, they woulda been crazy not to take advantage of Roy's strengths.

Now I'm ramblin'......Off to work!
