Has anyone else seen/heard the new TV ad for The U.S. Virgin Islands using the song "This Land Is Your Land" I don't know who is singing it but it is a pretty cool. I was busy doing something in another room and heard it and went running to the TV to see what it was. I have seen it several times here in Houston. Seems that Woody's song are getting quite popular with the advertising industry lately. Cool ! ! ! Got my attention.

Yes--we've seen it in Dallas, too, and in the last 6 months or so, I have been noticing that there seems to be more folk-style music in other ads and in TV intro and background music.

Hi Shelley, Connie, Carolyn and you too Larry, I saw that commercial about fifteen months ago and was concerned they may have been using the song without permission, so, doing my blundercivic duty I e-mailed the Woody Guthrie archives to find out. They e-mailed back saying they did have permission, so I've been able to sleep well ever since.
