Pete Seeger with Children's Dance Theatre //
Grammy Award-winning folk singer Pete Seeger and Children's Dance Theatre come together to present a celebration of American folk music and children's dance. Pete Seeger has intertwined his passion for civil rights, peace and the environment with music for more than 60 years. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts have honored Seeger's brilliant career. He is the recipient of the National Medal of Arts and the Felix Varella Medal. Seeger's internationally recognized songs include "Where Have the Flowers Gone," "If I Had a Hammer" and "Turn, Turn, Turn." Children's Dance Theatre, established in 1949 and under the direction of Mary Ann Lee, is unique in its youthful membership, discipline, technical skill and creative spirit.

Children's Dance Theatre Opens The Games

The CDT will take part in both the Closing and Opening ceremonies
as well as the 2002 Olympic Cultural Olympiad on Feb. 11 with folk
musician Pete Seeger.

The Cultural Olympiad performance will focus on Americana,
celebrating folk music through sing-alongs and dance.

"Doing the Olympic Ceremony and Cultural Olympiad is very, very
busy, but it's fun and worth it. I can't wait to dance with Pete," said
Alec Turner, a CDT fourth-grade participant.

CDT Director Mary Ann Lee said, "What an honor to be part of the
2002 Cultural Olympiad and a privilege to share the stage with
legendary singer/songwriter Pete Seeger."

Pete Seeger and Weavermania in Concert

The 2002 Living Treasures of North America Heritage Awards honorees Pete Seeger and the Fox will appear at the Honoring Ceremony, and Pete Seeger will appear for the first time with Weavermania, the group that recreates the music of the legendary quartet, the Weavers. Pete Seeger was a founding member of that group in 1949. Studs Terkel and Ella Jenkins, two long-time friends of Pete Seeger will be present at the awards ceremony.

The headliner at this year's Piccolo Spoleto festival, May 24 to June 9 in Charleston, SC, is Pete Seeger. He will do an outdoor concert with the Charleston Symphony. BTW Sarah and Johnny played there last year.

Thanks to Janet for frequently ferreting out good sources of information. Indeed the Great Hudson River Revival (aka the Clearwater Festival) which Arlo has done several times, is a fabulous experience, not just for the audience, but for the volunteer as well. Here is a chance to spend a day or two or more helping to make this wonderful festival successful, and have a blast doing it. Volunteer. I do and I love it. You can get up close to most of the artists, including Pete Seeger, who inspired the whole thing, Richie Havens, John Hammond, Dar Williams John Gorka, and lots of other good people.

Last nite while flipping dials on tv I came across a PBS documentary on saving the Hudson River. Watched it & it & it had Pete in it. Nice to see him on tv again... <img src="http://www.arlo.net/ubb/smilies/smile.gif" width=15 height=15>
