I just got "Hard Travelin'" tribute to Woody Guthrie as seen through the eyes of his son, Arlo Guthrie... Does Anybody else have it. It is a wonderful documentary... It is sweet to see all of Woody's old friends talking to Arlo about his dad. It is very touching, and it also has a lot of information about Arlo too. As well as some great music. I have always known of Woody's impact on social and political issues, as well as his impact on the revitalizaion of folk music...but this movie is a glimpse at how wonderful he truly was...

Woody Guthrie website, Dave, hmmmmm? I have decided if I want to see a web-site done correctly it has to be done by Dave.

I hate a song that makes you just think that you're born to lose...bound to lose, no good to nobody, songs that run you down and poke fun at you because of your bad luck or hard travelin' and I'm out to fight these songs to my very last breath of air and my last drop of blood. I'm out to sing the songs that will prove to you that this is your world. No matter what color, what size you are or how you were built. I'm out to sing the osngs that will make you take pride in yourself and in your work. And the songs that I sing are made up, for the most part, by all sorts of folks just about like you. I oculd hire out to the other isde, the big money side and get several dollars every week just to sing the kinds that knocks you down still further, and the one's that make you think that you've not got any sense at all. But I decided a long time ago that I would starve to death before I would sing any such songs as that.--WWG

Three cheers to Woody!!!!

Yup, this should be available on the RSR web site in the next day or so (as soon as I get the chance to add it). As for me doing a WWG web site, nope. Woody doesn't move me the way Arlo does, and I think I've got enough to handle aleady! Image

Yes...I love that video...I use the Arlo / Woody / Leadbelly videos in my music classes with the kids...they have to love Woody, Arlo, Abe and Sarah to pass in my class!
I love showing the kids a different side of music. They are so saturated by the manufactured music scene, I want them to see the difference between music that is bought and mass produced by corporate people and the real thing....They have been really touched by Woody, they love to hear Arlo's Motorcycle song over and over, they think Sarah is the prettiest singer they've EVER seen and are looking forward to meeting Abe and the boys in January when Xavier plays at their school.
...I have given those videos for Christmas gifts to my family year after year...they make EXCELLENT gifts!!

Cheryl - I think I'll become a Woody fan around the same time you really get into Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, or Megadeth...

ROTFLMAO! If Megadeath is who I think they are back when they had out record albums our nephew from Ohio bought an lp of theirs when Mikes sister & her family were down visiting from Ohio. Mike & his sister caught that there were bad words on there & alot of stuff talking about suicide on there stuff not suitable for a young teen. So they took it back to the record store explaining why & they exchanged it for soemthing else. Iron Maiden I think. LOL!

I guess this puts me back to square one. I should learn to follow directions.

*Is the video available through RSR. . ??
and if not, will it be? I realize I can be difficult tossing words around, but I've asked this question before. Maybe I'm bumping my head against the wall???

The soundtrack on CD is now available from RSR. Years ago the video was available from RSR. Fairly recently the video became available through WG Archives.

THANK YOU JANET!!

*I ordered this paticular Tape around 1990, only to be told it was no longer available. Since then I've browsed every record store in two county's, big and small. I mostly always got told, ya, I've heard of it (or seen it, I guess it aired on PBS a time or two). For some reason it was a hard to get item. I guess they don't call it hard Travelin for nothin...Image

Thanx again Janet!!!
