Hope things are okay in ya'lls area when you get back. Yesterday we went to a local Indian Pow Wow over in the next country with a coupla friends of mine & the Indian Chief prayed for the folks affected by Rita. The Indians along with us are offering our prayers for those in Ritas path...

I'm going to keep this short so I can share the good news with others, but we just got word that our home in Louisiana was spared any serious damage. Our back fence is down but that seems to be the only damage.

Thanks again for all the love, support, prayers and blundervibes. If this sounds familiar it's because I already sent it in an e-mail! I'm just trying to cover all my bases.

I just got off the phone with Shirley. She's fine and her condo is fine. Even her carport is fine! She said the winds were very heavy and they lost power for a short while, but other than that there were no problems at her place except a few roof tiles that went for a flight. It was just scary! Right now she's trying to get her house back in order. She said they had talked about flooding, so she moved some important stuff upstairs. Then they were talking about the heavy winds and the possibility of roofs flying off, so she moved some stuff downstairs. And then being really confused about what to do, she put some stuff on the stairs themselves, so it would be in the middle. She is not online at the moment, 'cos she had moved her computer into the bathroom, 'cos it's usual home is between two windows on what would have been the windy side of the house, and she figured it would be safer in the bathroom. She'll get it set back up eventually. Right now she is doing a little spring cleaning and getting her place organized again, and has decided it's probably a good time to shampoo the carpets. She didn't really sleep for about 3 nights, so I'm sure she is doing some resting, too. She talked about how crazy it was gonna be, getting everybody who left town back into the city, and about the lack of gas in the area. There would be an announcement on TV or the radio that "The Shell station on such a such a street has gas", and the lines would immediately form, and a half hour later all the gas would be gone. She still has a half a tank of gas in her car, which should last her a couple weeks of normal living. The grocery stores were opening back up today, so that's good. It's gonna take a while for things to get back to normal, though.

And that's the news! Shirley thanks you all for all your vibes and prayers, and was so glad to hear that Sherry and Ken made out OK, too! Whew!

No more hurricanes! No more hurricanes!

just walked back in the door in ga....what a trip! we got to pensacola fri evening and ate a quick meal at the steak and ale so we could get an early start sat morning for la. pensacola is about half way between where we are in ga and where we live in la. we drove about 6-7 hours into la and got to our house without much fanfare....to find the house in good shape...thank god...but also to find that a 60 foot pine tree had fallen...thru the center of my old car! my 86 chevy was parked in the back car port and gave it's life for my house and our other cars (vw beetle and the 67 'stang)n the front car port. if the tree had fallen in any other direction it would have been disasterous. thank god for j.p. (my 86 chevy had a name.....all my cars do!). it seems the most fitting way for it to go.....and made for a few interesting photos as well. not sure what the insurance co will make of it!

we got all the rotting food out of the fridge and freezer and even had water to wash the dishes with....but still no power.

there is some other damage but nothing that can't wait until we return to la and nothing that will be a concern to the contents of the house. we are very lucky and very grateful.

we turned around after about 2 hours in la (packed up some more clothes for the trip to ma!) and drove back to pensacola in time for another meal at the steak and ale and then called it a night and left early this morning to return to ga.

we literally just walked in the door but i wanted to let folks know what's what.

we still plan on getting to the church for fri to say howdy....

thanks again for EVERYTHING!
