Healthy, strong, clear-breathing blundervibes are on their way to Michael...

Although he's wheezing (so what else is new), Michael, it turns out, has an ear infection! Doc had to put him back on steroids (I'm going to scream!) and another antibiotic.

He's insisting that I take Michael to an allergy/pulmonary doctor within the next 2 weeks. Used to be, it was up to me who managed his asthma.

Due to changes in our health care (we now have a PPO), I can use any doctor I want without needing a "referral," but I cannot go "out of network."

We have a local Blue Cross plan, but the doctor of my choice (the one who cared for ALL my kids until 2 years ago), is part of the Phila plan, not the Harrisburg plan. I hate this regional bullshit! What possible difference does it make to the insurance company if I CHOOSE to drive 65 miles so my son can use the doctor of our choice? It's all the same company? So what difference does it make if they pay out of their H'burg office or their Phila office?

I have to finally give up the insurance battle and take him to a local allergist (who is NOT a pulmonary specialist). I then have to take him to yet a different doctor, a pulmonologist... out in Hershey... which just happens to be an hour in the OTHER direction!

Michael's still very congested, but his fever seems to be breaking and he's at a Pack meeting tonight ONLY because it's a Wildlife Conservation meeting with the local WC officer. No running around, no games, no wildness.

My grandmother (87 years old) was admitted to the hospital this morning with pneumonia. She's been having a very rough time in the last year or so with bone spurs in her shoulder causing a lot pain and eye problems (went blind in one eye and just recently had an operation on the other to hopefully prevent blindness in that eye).

She's so proud to be the "matriarch" of her very large family--tells all she sees that she has "16 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren." She loves her family very much--no matter what.

Blundervibes would be very welcome.

I'm so sorry to hear about you Nana. Especially with it being so close to Christmas, I hope that she is alowed out in time for Christmas day. A few years ago my nana had to stay in hospital over Christmas, we all did our best to still make it a spechil day for her, but its just not the same, she is fine now as I hope your nana will soon be too.

Update: Grandma is in isolation as they now think she has pneumonia AND the flu. Mom said she was exhausted when she visited with her earlier today. Said she was running a fever when she was admitted, and according tothe doctor, "Old people NEVER run a fever." I don't know what he meant by that, but it doesn't sound good.

Pam, so sorry to hear about Grandma--I think when people get older, their body temperature usually goes a little lower than normal--I know when I used to take my Mom to the Dr. it was never even 98 degrees, much less higher than that. Sounds like some sort of infection or something, but I hope it's something they can treat! Prayers and Blundervibes on their way to you and Grandma!!

Blundervibes going out for your grandmother from here, Pam. She sounds like a pretty strong person. Hopefully she'll make it through this one, too.

Grandma is doing better ... knew the blundervibes would work!! She does have pneumonia AND the flu, so is still in isolation. We'll know she's truly on the mend when she's not too tired to watch her shows during the day. I don't know if she'll be home by Christmas, but I really feel with your help, she will be coming home soon.

(I keep thinking of Mrs. T and how she rallies time after time. Gotta love those hardy old souls.)
