A lot of those skaters including Sarah Hughes, and even a Russian team practice at a rink called "The Icehouse" in Hackensack N.J. where I also skate with my hockey guys once in a while. I gotta look them up when I'm there next time!

Man you just KNEW as soon as Kwan stepped onto the ice that no matter how much she said it wasn't about the gold, that it truly was, and that when a young teen with no gold to go for got out there she would waltz the evening away. (sigh) Truly a beautiful, amazing evening. And when Sarah tried to bite the gold to make sure it was real? PRICELESS!!! I thought it was cute how she was mouthing the words to the National Anthem too. What a moment for America. that was magical, Shannon, also the joy, of the Croaton slalom skiier, with her family's initials, painted on her fingernails, or, the 3rd generation Olympian, w/ his Grandad's pic, in his helmet, & Priscilla Hightower, the 1st Black-American to medal, in Winter Games, sobbing thru National Anthem.
But, the joy, on Sarah Hughes's face, right after she finished her long program was gorgeous. At that moment, she didn't have a clue, what, if anything, she'd won, & didn't care, she just knew she'd gone beyond her best.. to somewhere else, bettter...I've had fleeting moments. of that feeling, in sports, when your body surprises you, it's grin material!

Apollo's cool! He didn't whine & grouse about not doing better in short track, last night, he was just happy to have had the experience.
and. one of the bobsled captains actually used to beg corporate sponsors to make donations, to keep US Bobsled effort alive, and now, he's won a Bronze medal!. The real OLympic spirit lives, within the atheletes
Peiple don't get the world view that sports can teach young people, it's like few oother emdeavors, the joy of doing, of engagement!
I really don't care, what country wins how many medals, that Olympic spirit is price;ess, though...some of the greatest human qualities, live there

Indeed, apparently 'tis true: she's the first black person from any nation to get a medal in bobsledding. And about time, too!

That's it. After tonight it's all over, until Athens 2004. That's a good place to be having it too, I think, given the world's current socio/political climate. Get back to the roots, the source, and all that...

I can't believe the Olympics are over tonight! (sigh) Seems like they began only yesterday. One thing for certain, despite all the hoopla over bias judges and all that stupid scandal, I think the Winter Games were just what the doctor ordered given the cirumstances this country has been under since September.
It was a much needed uplift from daily life, it gave me a reason to cheer and watch grace and glory night after night for 2 weeks. They raised our spirits, and that is what the Olympics are all about!

One question: Why on earth did they open the games with some random Hockey team from the 80's, instead of like a world figure, or someone amazing? Maybe someone tied to heroism like the FDNY or Rudy, or someone...I dunno...just a thought.

How about next Winter Olympics, they add a new sport, a combination of Curling, & Ice dancing... curlers have way too much time to concentrate, now, and w/Ice Daanncers sailing around the lanes, that'll add some immediacy to it,,, also, imagine doin a Meringue, knowing a 42 lb stone is heading for your ankles! wuld add some suspense & athletisism, to both "sports"
